PhotoJoseph's Photo Moments, Week 37, 2017

How is everyone doing? Did everyone in the USA enjoy their day off this past Monday? For those of us in Oregon, we spent it inside while trying to escape the smoke the best we could. The Photo Moments kicked off on Tuesday with a live test of the SAMSON Go Mic Mobile. There were some stream hiccups during the show itself, and we don't know whether to chock that up to changes YouTube recently made, the streaming setup, or the Go Mic itself. Luckily most of them were processed out in the final product. On Wednesday, we showed off the newest addition to the Live Streaming Studio: The Behringer X AIR XR16 sound mixer. Oh Man! This thing is full of capabilities!

PhotoJoseph's Photo Moments, Week 36, 2017

Hey! Welcome Back! These posts have been a little short on videos the past couple of weeks, but we're back in the normal swing of things… and it was a week full of exciting things here at PhotoJoseph Studios. We kicked it off with the first true Q&A Show in a long time. Joseph answered some of the questions that had been building up, and of course took the time to answer the ones coming in through the live chat. Tuesday's show was a first look at the Loupedeck Controller for Lightroom. The big ticket item this week was Wednesday's show! Panasonic announced the 2.0 Firmware Update for the GH5, and Joseph went through it point-by-point, (just wait until he get's his hands on it!). On Thursday, we needed help from Leonard DiCaprio to get us out of the multiple levels of stream tests with the Epiphan Webcaster X2. And to finish off the week, there was an impromptu unboxing of the Samson Go Mic Mobile with LM8 Lav Mic, which had been on back-order for a few months.

PhotoJoseph's Photo Moments, Week 35, 2017

Some of you might be wondering "Where did the Photo Moments go"? They're still here. PhotoJoseph was on vacation, but he's back now. We got to see him briefly this past Monday… or Tuesday depending on where you live. It was a quick check-in to tell us all he's still here, (kind of like how parents ask their children to call every few hours). And then we didn't hear anything until Friday when Joseph got back to the studio to check in, do a bit of house cleaning items, and give us a taste of a few things to come. We promise next week will be back to normal. In the meantime, check out some more shots from PhotoJoseph's trip to Sweden.

PhotoJoseph's Photo Moments, Week 34, 2017

Well, we warned you last week that PhotoJoseph was going out of town… out of state… out of country. He is in Sweden right now, enjoying his vacation with his kids. It was a light content week. There's not a whole lot to talk about. We had one live show on Monday where Joseph showed us what gear he was taking with him on the trip. And then on Tuesday we had a pre-recorded video ready for release all about how to use the Epiphan Webcaster X2 for both Facebook and YouTube. Then, due to travel schedules, there just wasn't time (or energy when factoring in a 10-hour bus ride, an 11-hour flight, and jet lag). But that doesn't mean we'll keep this post scant of content. First of all, we would like to bring your attention to one of last week's videos about the Solar Eclipse that is happening in North America this coming Monday. It is full of information and experiential insight from photographer/videographer Jason McMurray. If you are planning on shooting it, then you should listen for the tips (because the part about preparation is probably something you've already done). Second, there's a useful app called PhotoPills that can help you set up your shot when you get to your location. And finally, here are some shots from Joseph's vacation so far

It's still summer, so that means it's time for vacations… and that is no exception for us here at PhotoJoseph Studios. Ryan, the assistant/producer, was out of the studio Monday and Tuesday, leaving Joseph alone to manage the live show by himself, (It's Joseph's turn next week… he's flying off with his teenage kids to Sweden). Monday's show was an unboxing of the Behringer X AIR XR16, which was actually a very generous gift from a loyal viewer, (if only Joseph wasn't scrambling the week before his trip… this would have been set up by now). On Tuesday, Joseph installed a firmware update for the Panasonic Leica 12-60mm, and showed off the Image Stabilization. Wednesday, Ryan was back in the studio, therefore it was the first true test of the new setup using the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K… it was also the first true streaming test of the Webcaster X2 from Epiphan Video. Thursday's show was geared towards learning about the subtleties of shooting a solar eclipse and other Astrophotography topics like the Aurora Borealis. Our guest was Jason McMurry, a local Klamath Falls photographer/videographer, who has experience with this and shared his tips and insights. If any of you in the USA are interested in photographing/recording the eclipse, this is definitely one to watch! And on Friday, we ended the week with two birds and one stone. Joseph talked about what gear he would be taking with him to Sweden, and the mentality behind the choices, all while we had TWO streaming events going at the same time, (that's right Egon, we crossed the streams). We had dual streams going to test the potential differences between streaming through Wirecast and streaming through the Epiphan Webcaster X2. Watching them side by side, as you can below, shows some very obvious differences. What can you see?

I don't normally like to repeat the way I open this blurb every week, but WOW this was a hot week! We began it with some fantastic news. The GH5 Training Course is truly finally complete and available in its entirety at GH5Training.com! Monday's show was all about that, plus talking about which lens is best for interviews. Moving on to Tuesday, Joseph not only made his custom GH5 settings available to everyone, (available for download on the GH5 Training site), but he walked through it live. Wednesday's show was an unboxing of the Epiphan Webcaster X2. We're looking forward to testing it out to see how it performs. On Thursday, we were shown how LUMIX cameras are able to grab stills while shooting video. And finally, on Friday, Joseph talked through an issue we're trying to solve with audio being out of sync when streaming through the DJI Spark. We hope you all have a great weekend

That was a hot week! Hopefully you all had working air conditioning. It was a regular productive and informative week here at PhotoJoseph Studios. Monday's show was about how to pack your gear into a carry-on bag that actually fits in the overhead compartment. If you are someone who travels with your equipment, and don't like checking it, then you should definitely watch this Photo Moment. On Tuesday, Joseph answered a viewer's question about buying a starter micro four thirds kit for under $1K. Those who constantly tune in to the live show know what Joseph has been having a lot of fun with his DJI Spark drone. Wednesday's show was all about how Joseph solved an issue with the embedded audio. On Thursday, PhotoJoseph showed off the Manfrotto Nitrotech N8 video head for the last time, (sadly, we had to send it back to B&H later that day), and combined it with the Panasonic Leica 100-400mm. And to end the week, Friday's show was about the DJI Spark. Joseph took the drone down near the train tracks to show us how the panorama mode works.

PhotoJoseph's Photo Moments, Week 29, 2017

Another week done. PhotoJoseph was in LA on Monday, traveling for a Panasonic meeting. He stopped just long enough, after he got off the plane and before he got picked up, to stream live and tell us about the GX80/85 kits that he found while answering a viewer's question. He was in town over night, and flew back the next morning… so if you are looking for Tuesday's Photo Moment, it got lost in the clouds on the way back. Wednesday's show, due to travel schedules, wasn't so much planned ahead of time as it was a bit of a "grab-bag" of little things that couldn't fill a solo show. On Thursday, Joseph showed us the new Lightroom LUMIX profiles for the GX8, G7, and the GX/85. And finally, Friday is now called Mevo Friday, (just so you are all aware). What started out as a normal Friday morning for Joseph outside of the studio quickly turned into something a bit more eventful. He streamed the Photo Moment from his back patio… which wasn't actually the original plan. He got the DJI Spark stuck in a tree… 40ft above a rock… which was surrounded by water… dangling by a skinny twig. Keep an eye on the PhotoJoseph YouTube Channel to see the video of us getting it back. We here at PhotoJoseph Studios hope you have a great weekend!

PhotoJoseph's Photo Moments, Week 28, 2017

Everyone have a good week? It was a bit hot here… luckily we work in-doors. We started the week's Photo Moments off with the first true Monday Q&A in a long while, (If you ever have questions that you want PhotoJoseph's take on, don't hesitate to ask on either YouTube or Facebook). On Tuesday, Joseph unboxed the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K. If you don't know what that is, picture an iPad with a spot for a zoom lens on the back. We're really excited to set this up to use as the broadcast camera for the rest of the studio. We were also treated to a second show on Tuesday. Maybe you saw last week's show where Joseph talked about how he was the target of a scammer? Well, this was an update to that… and I'm not going to spoil any of it for you here. Wednesday's show was showcasing the powerful combo that is the Atomos Ninja Inferno and the GH5. If you own a GH5 and are going to use it to record video, then the Ninja Inferno should be on your wishlist. On Thursday, Joseph showed us his teleprompter setup. And finally, on Friday, Joseph took the day outside of the studio, and met up with fellow photographer Christopher Briscoe (who lives right here in Ashland) so they could sit and talk about all of the things you aren't supposed to do with drones.
