- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2016This is a really nice camera. Solid build quality, with lots of magnesium and little plastic which prevents the cheap-ish feeling that some cameras which incorporate a lot of plastic have. The weather sealing and build quality was good enough to survive a backpacking trip through Olympic National Park, where the camera received lots of knocks and splashes that it took like a champ. I don't hesitate to use it in rain or snow. An important consideration is that not all lenses are weather sealed, so even if the camera body can survive rain, water can still enter the lens and damage it, and possibly the camera as well. This is a mistake which I've seen many people make. Make sure that if the camera is going to be used in a wet environment, that the lenses you plan to use are also sealed. I don't know how well the camera stands up against dust, as I haven't used it in any locations where it would be necessary.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2016Wow!!! This camera quality is awesome in every aspect. I picked up the international version for under $1,000.00USD a few weeks ago, what a deal!. Their are aplenty reviews done on this camera, check them out
I also got V-Log L from another vendor and it expands the quality you can get from this professional video/cinematic stills camera.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2016There is nothing to indicate any difference from the international version from the Amazon app. Upon receiving the item and calling Amazon, they proceeded to tell me info was listed that wasn't. IF YOU CAN'T USE IT IN THE US, DON'T TELL IT IN THE US without being specific on it's differences.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2017Excellent camera for the price. The only thing holding it back from being 5 stars is the micro 4/3 sensor. However this can be mostly fixed with a speedbooster like Metabones or Aputure DEC Lensregain on the front of the lens. Still, I would definitely recommend this camera to someone who's just starting into film, as it is definitely geared towards video. With the GH4 and all of the 4K high bitrate settings, you will not be disappointed at the picture quality, even with a cheap lens like my Canon 28-135mm f3.5-5.6. I would still recommend a brighter lens if you can afford it like the Sigma 18-35mm.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2017Function of gh4 is good. The bad thing: I don't know if the scratches were because of the travel or what, but i bought it "new".
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2016Alright, I use a Canon T5i normally, but I wanted a 4K video capability.... but... I am so glad I didn't get rid of my Canon! The Lumix has fantastic video, absolutely love it and the contrast is amazing, but photo quality..... I don't know if maybe I have it in a bad setting but the grain is unbearable when I crop into any pics. Same lens, same setting, and the Canon is FAR superior to the Lumix for still pics in my opinion.
Video though, very very good.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2016Good Deal, (with major Caveats)
No real need to review the DMC-GH4 body as it has been around for over two years and is highly rated around the world.
This one came with no English language support and no warranty; so I was careful to get the accidental damage insurance offered during check out.
IF ... one needs the GH4 English Language Software DVD, then DO NOT buy this version; if you already have the Panasonic Lumix DVD software pack, then feel free to save a little money with these Grey-market products; they are perfectly fine.
They are genuine and new, as in "no previous owner or user." Mine did arrive in a Kit box, the lens part of the Kit had been removed as all I had purchased was a GH4 Black Body; all cables, cloth carry bag, battery and charger were included. The Serial Number checked out as legit. Registration was not an issue; I had to look for, then download the PDF version of the user manual but that is no big problem.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2017I am amazed by this camera for so many reasons. I did a ton of research beforehand and eventually found this guy. I would buy this camera again and again if needed. The quality and features were beyond my expectations. There are many pros out there that have done tutorials to help you get the look you want with the gh4. I definitely recommend the gh4. I also paired it with a sigma 18-35mm lens with a metabones speed booster ultra. This wasn't the original combination I had and my films were good...but I wanted to make GREAT looking films so I decided to get the sigma lens and the metabones adapter and it was so worth it! Having the right accessories is important to fully use the cameras capabilities.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for daylight video-shooting, not comparable to full frame DSLR for low light shooting and not the best option for pictures
I make documentary movies from weddings at shaadigrapher .com and from real life 3minutestories .com and before getting a GH4 for myself, had shot only with Canon DSLRs (5D mii, 7D for a brief period and with 6D). This context is important to share my feedback with this camera, both for photography and for cinematography.
The good:
a) light-weight (will not mean much to people who don't shoot all the time, but any professional photographer / videographer like me who is used to shooting with DSLRs for long duration on field, will love the loss of weight.
b) Amazing performance in good light (obviously based on what lenses you use - but there are a lot of good lens options available - and a lot of lenses are so light weight, they are like feathers - I use 12mm f2 and 45mmf1.8 and both of them are less than 50 grams; compare this to the lightest L lens I have for canon at >500 grams).
c) the dynamic range of video footage is slightly better than Canon 6D in good light, and you will notice this especially when you colour correct your files
d)4k video directly to camera (good use sometimes when you want to crop your video) - but then even a GoPro these days shoots 4k videos so that's fine
The not so good:
a) for pictures, if you are used to shooting with full frame cameras, GH4 simply does not give comparable results; the notice is too obviously especially at wide angles and not so much when shooting telephoto. For example 12mmf2 on GH4 (which is about 24mm on full frame) simply cannot give you pictures that are possible from 24mmf1.4 on a full frame body. Likewise 45mmf1.8 is nowhere comparable to shooting with 85f1.4 or 85f1.2 on full frame
b) simply does not match with full frame cameras like 6D, 5D markiii in low light (ISO 400 + starts giving grainy images)
I knew most of it but still got it. Because I have a very specific use for this camera. I wanted a lighter setup to fly on a lightweight glidecam. And for less than 600 grams (when a 12mmf2 or 45mmf1.8 is attached to the body) - there is simply not other lighter option available (till date) which can give comparable result. Also the 12mmf2 and 45f1.8 are almost identical in volumen and weight so I can swap lenses without disturbing the balance of my glidecam. I have recently upgraded from mechanical glidecam to a light weight electronic gimbal and it is so easy to carry it with a GH4 without getting tried, that I don't see I will be able to live without GH4 till the time a better camera (in low light) shows up in the same weight range.
To sum up - no way you can s*** from full frame DSLRs to this one if pictures are all you take (and love the shallow depth of field, especially in wide angle shots that only a bigger sensor can give). But if you want the best lightweight setup as your secondary camera for videos - this is great.
Will update the review as I get to use it more (it's just been few months).
