Doubled Lenses #1

I've got a EOS 5D, the old one. It seems that one firmware update changed the lens info. All lenses have a second entry with Canon:

EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM
EF50mm f/1.4 USM1
EF17-40mm f/4L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L

Any chance to merge the data?

And how does this happen?

Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS or Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 or 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 or 14mm f/2.8

Hi

Aperture Inspector reads the name of the lenses from Aperture, it does not have any lens-data itself. So if Aperture has read the lens name as “Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS ” and “EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM ” they will appear as two different lenses.

I am trying to figure out how to make it possible to merge lenses, so hopefully it will appear in a future update.

It will either have to be a manual process for all users, or perhaps we can all contribute the lenses that are ovelapping here. That would make it easy for me to build this into the application. My problem now is that I do not know with 100% accuracy what lenses are the same.

I was about to enter the same problem myself and just noticed this post. Same thing, but with a Canon 50D and 5DIII sharing lenses. The EF-S lens also shows twice, and since it can’t be used on the 5D, this looks like a 50D firmware update issue similar to the original post. The following is the list from Aperture Inspector you can use to add to your database of overlapping lenses (I’ve paired them up to make it easier). The 24-105 and 16-35 have only been used on the 5D, so only one entry for them, but maybe others can help for those two.

EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM

EF70-200mm f/4L IS USM
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS

EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS

EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS

Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Photo
MP-E65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Photo

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II

Thanks for the help here!
When we have a list of the most widely used lenses and their differnet names I’ll include a mechanism that removes the doublie-listings for these.

So please, all of you with this problem - tell me about the lenses and their different names. I’m sure the problem is the same for NIkon-users?

I just updated to V 1.20 without problems. My Nikon lenses are displayed only once each. Besides I use a “Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro” for a Nikon body. This is anonymously listed as “28.0-75.0 mm f/2.8”. Perhaps the complete name could be added to the database.
I just noted that some pictures in another library (taken by somebody else) are listed under the lens “Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) (A16)”. There AI knows the complete name.

Thanks and regards,
Michael

Hi Stig

currently, I am using Version 1.50 (somethings seems to be mixed up in this version, as the number of pictures for at least one lens is totally off - this was not an issue in 1.2). I would like to contribute my “doubled” lenses, as this “bug” invalidates the statistics quite seriously. However, I would expect a manual solution is more flexible - if the tagging as “this lens is the same” is copied to subsequent versions of the application. Which (the copying) would be a nice feature e.g. for the prices - it is quite tedious to need to re-enter these for each version.

12.0-24.0 mm
Tokina AT-X 124 AF 12-24mm f/4 DX

35.0 mm
Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L

70.0-200.0 mm 594 14.63
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

140.0-400.0 mm
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS
EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM

Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II
EF85mm f/1.2L II USM

I’m having the same problem. When will this be fixed? It’s been over a Year…. Just let the users merge their own lenses if they want? Would be an ideal option..

So I’m hoping this new version doesn’t take a couple of years , as of now the program is kinda wasted money for me…
