Aperture hot folder is not working on Maverick. I get a script error: Cant make alias: “Macintosh HD:Users: …” into type reference. Anyone, any idea on how to fix this script?

Same problem here.

Saw this when 3.5 was release and I updated one of my studio iMacs to 10.9.

I’ve been away since the update was released and now I’m back trying the latest version (3.5.1) has the same issue.

Tomorrow I’m going to remove Aperture from the iMac and copy across the 3.4.5 version that’s on my main machine.

I just emailed Sal, the author, about something else the other day and haven't heard back. Maybe he's out of town. I'll send him this page to let him know.

Thanks Joseph,

I’ve just copied the Aperture 3.4.5 App from the workstation across to the iMac and made a new library so it’s compatible.

The Aperture Hot Folder still shows the same problem!

Looks like it’s Mavericks / Applescript rather than Aperture 3.5.1.

Next step is to completely remove Aperture from the iMac and try again with 3.4.5

Regards,

Michael

Thanks Joseph for trying to help.
I recently bought an EyeFi Pro X2 card. Had no problem using it with my iPad mini. But would also like to tether shooting with the Aperture in my Imac. It’s seems I need that Aperture hot folder working properly.

Hi All,

Anyone have any solutions or development with getting the folder script to work? I’ve looked into Automator folder options, but can’t find an option for the Aperture to display the latest imported photo.

-Joseph any chance you heard back from Sal?

Thanks,

Nate

Hi, I’m not an expert of Aperture nor Applescript. Just encountered the same issue and came up with a quick solution, hope it helps:

1. after launching “Aperture Hot Folder”, you get to choose the target hot folder, you choose one on your disk and you run into this issue.

2. by clicking “Edit” you get into “AppleScript Editor”.

3. Find the lines:

if (the attached scripts target_folder) does not contain action_script then

attach action to the target_folder using the action_script

        end if

4. Replace them with:

if (the attached scripts of folder (target_folder as string)) does not contain action_script then

attach action to folder (target_folder as string) using the action_script

        end if

5. Close “AppleScript Editor”.

6. Launch “Aperture Hot Folder” again it should work now.

Hi Fred,

Just got my Mobi yesterday. Using it with Aperture and Canon DS MarkII. I’m so glad I found your post because I was having difficulty with the script. I made the changes you proposed in the above post. The only area that I had to change was to uncheck the sorting  by date checkbox in the MOBI advanced settings because Aperture didn’t want to recognize the “sub folder” created with the dates. Thanks again!

Just another option using Automator. More elegant I feel.

1. Create your photo uploading folder on your disk. Named “EYE-FI” in my case. All pictures in your EYE-FI card will be automatically uploaded in this folder later.

2. Configure your EYE-FI card to set the uploading target up to that folder created in step1. Using “Eye-fi Center”, and Without subfolder creation by date.

3. Open Aperture and create your EYE-FI importing project. A project named “EYE-FI” in my case. All pictures uploaded from your EYE-FI card will be automatically imported in this project later.

4. Open Automator and create a new “Folder Action” document. Choose the folder you created in step1 as the target folder.

5. In Automator drag the “import photos” from “photos” category. Check the options based on your habit.

6. In Automator drag the “Run AppleScript” from “Utilities” category. And replace “(* Your script goes here *)” with “tell application “Aperture” to reveal input”.

7. Save your document and close Automator.

8. Try a test shoot and it should work now.

Not working. Aperture 3.5.1 Mavericks 10.9.2

After populating the folder using the Transmit Synchronize action to get images from web site, Import Photos throws an error:

“The action ‘Import Photos’ encountered an error.

Check the action’s properties and try the workflow again.”

Any suggestions?

Further: Using a Folder Action called “Tethered Shooting” I can get the images from my “hot folder” to Aperture. The only issue is that the project name is “Tethered Shooting”  - no way to change this project name at the outset.

I’ve just implemented Fred’s solution. I’m using an Eye-Fi Pro X2 card transmitting to a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.9.4.

I have no problem whatsoever getting images from the camera to the computer. Naturally, if I set the resolution lower, the transfer is faster. Once in the destination folder however, the import into Aperture is spotty. When it works, it’s great; new images display in the full screen view.

I’m confused by the variability in the import step. Is there a way to have the Automator check the contents of the target folder at a specified rate of once per second?

Any other suggestions?
