(disclosure: I’m w/ Macphun Software)

Hey, it’s really great to see the brand spankin’ shiny new PhotoApps.Expert!  Speaking for everyone here at Macphun, I say “Huzzah!” and wish you the best of luck with the new site.

We’re looking forward to being regulars, contributing some inspiration & tips, and answering questions about any of our software.

Cheers!  Kevin

Are you the guys who were at Nik? If you are I hope you go on to do all the plug ins for LR. I consider Aperture now dead & being an avid Apple user disappointed that they killed it in favor of iPhone photo takers! As an aside it made me look with a more critical eye on all things Apple & its not good.

You never have enough gear!

Hi Tom - There are a few of us from Nik (I was the U.S. marketing manager for instance), but Macphun is a completely different company - here’s our About page with a nice timeline at the bottom: http://macphun.com/about

Our apps are available on the Mac App Store, and our Pro products from our website. The Pro apps all run as plug-ins already, and extend LR’s capabilities. Check out the Trials of Tonality Pro or Intensify Pro if you get a chance:  http://macphun.com/downloads

Re: Aperture/Apple/iPhoneography - for Macphun, Photos for Mac does represent a new opportunity to make kick-butt Extensions that extend Photos. At the same time, I think you’re right in that each of us needs to be extra diligent to research and adopt a workflow that can persist for a long time. On a personal basis, I’ve been on Lightroom for several years, and made that decision when I didn’t see Apple extending Aperture much.

I do need some advice on photo back-ups though - what’s your back-up procedure? Do you store in the Cloud, on more than one drive, in multiple places, or what?

Thanks for advice, Kevin

All that is good about Apple photo wise is the O/s and hardware. Photos is a waste of time for the serious photographer but then we have had LR and PS along with Capture One etc  for years so we are not short of decent software. In fact we are probably beginning to get too many options - Topaz, MacPhun, Nik, OnOne and many other photo related products all crowding into the same space. Time to sit back, evaluate and then go for the best. We clearly do not need them all!

I agree! For a lot of people, they’ve found their workflow, love the results and no more research/exploration needed.

For others though, especially those just starting out in this fantastic photographic hobby, choices are good. And if you think it’s crowded on the desktop… man, you should see the mobile photography market - brutal! ;)

Be sure to check out some of our Mac apps too at macphun.com/downloads.  ;-)  Kev

Haven’t been using it long enough to know what new features I’d like yet.  Just got it.  :)
