how is the quality of these lavs with this system?
Is there an app that is needed when you plug your Rode mic into your smart phone?? I have a Samsung 8 Note smart phone (Android).
@@photojoseph Thank you for getting back to me!
No, all apps should recognize the mic. It’ll be supported on an OS level.
can I use 2 Boya M1 microphones with this adaptor in my iphone ? I want to connect 2 lavalier (Boya TRRS connection) to my iphone
Great vid. answered a heap of questions cheers..
I go with a rode Filmmaker and put a splitter on the reciever and get two lavs out - works fine and quick to set up.
***** presumably you have to use a recording app on your iPhone or smartphone. Cool - thanks Joseph.
+mark shirley Awesome. What I like about my setup is I can use it on the iPhone as well, which I often do.
Joseph, its fascinating to see how passionate you are about photo and gear. Very inspirational!

Cheers bud!

@photojoseph - What, in your opinion, are the benefits of using the XLR1 here instead of something like the cheaper Zoom H5?
Where you still feed through to the camera mic input for a backup recording/streaming, get TRS input without an adapter, and lossless recording of up to 4 simultaneous channels at 24bit/96k
I have the Sennheiser plug in receiver. It works great. The cost is about $300, and it is a female plug, so you will need a male to male XLR adapter for it to work. But my experience has been good.
Thanks so much for this! Helps a lot.
+jon bilson My pleasure!
I've looked for a while for a dual mini jack on camera mixer, the one I consider to get is the MyMyk SmartLynk PLUS at $249 on B&H. Then I could mix my Sennheiser MKE440 stereo shotgun with a wired lav (for myself behind the camera) or with a wireless Sennheiser lav which would also be minijack. But perhaps getting a Sennheiser AVX with the XLR dongle and using a mini-jack to XLR adapter for the shotgun MKE440 microphone and mixing those up using XLR1 might just be the best.

And for live streaming I wonder if LiveU Solo might be better than the Vidiu Pro with its feature to bond two LTE modems for double the bandwidth and making it more likely the livestream can work from a tradeshow where usually there is a lot of interference making a stable single LTE signal perhaps unlikely. Would be nice to live-stream into a Google+ Hangout kind of live stream so someone back at the "studio" can take over commenting the live show whenever the live stream disconnects while entering an interference area.
I hope the MyMyk gives a choice of either mixing both mics to stereo or to separate one channel to left and other to right. I prefer mixing them both to stereo but others might want to separate them for post production adjustments I guess. Also this choice I hope the XLR1 has cause I always just want to mix both into stereo and monitor and adjust levels in real-time, I don't have time for post production the way I video-blog.

Nice ok I will consider the VidiU bonding service. I wonder if LiveU includes unlimited bonding with the product or if they also sell bonding as a subscription service. And I wonder if there might be any other solutions out there that might cost less than the $1000 for that kind of live streaming box.

I haven't tried YouTube Live yet, does YouTube live have the same feature as Google+ Hangouts with multiple video feeds automatically going to front based on who is talking? I think also that Google+ Hangouts thing could be one way to manage multiple video feeds for a live show, as far as I remember the one who is broadcasting the Hangout Live can click on any video window to bring it to the front even without sound coming from it or re-click to go back to auto for bringing to front the video feed that is talking. Then you could have 1 or 2 people sitting from their home commenting live your live streaming show and if your connection ever drops out, then they can make sure the show goes on until you are able to re-join the live stream.
+Charbax lots of options. Does the MyMyk send one channel left and the other right?

The VidiU allows bonding as well; up to four cellular, or wired+wifi+cellular. Pretty sweet. It's a monthly paid service though.

G+… interesting idea. I'd be concerned about quality though; in my experience G+ hangouts look like sh** and are extremely susceptible to random feature changes. YouTube does a fine job of holding the show open if I disappear though, and seems to bring me right back, no?
+Charbax Oh well that goes the complete opposite direction of where I want to be. Remember I prefer to use the shotgun mic so the mic isn't in the picture, and am reluctantly using the lav now to get more sound. I have gotten quite good at hiding and silencing a lav but that takes a lot of time. As long as I have ears in I know if I'm getting mic sound and can adjust. Just one more step before starting each show :-)
And to solve the self-lav always making noise against ones clothes I've looked at the $69 SportsMyk as being the one on myself behind the camera connecting into the MyMyk SmartLynk Plus, they also have something about recording backup audio to an Android or iOS app using the third mini jack output as far as I understand..
