Is it possible to bring the image from Lightroom into DXO PhotoLab 8?
@@photojoseph Awesome thank you!
There’s a plugin that gets installed in Lightroom Classic when you install PhotoLab that gives you an “open in PhotoLab” menu option.
Does PL8 now include luminosity masking?
Hue Mask is integral but you still need to buy Filmpack to get Luminosity Mask.
@@photojoseph I have both PL6 & PL7 but to access luminosity masks I would need to have purchased filmpack. Hence my question are luminosity masks now an integral part of PL8?
Yes, Luminosity Masking was actually added quite some time ago. Maybe PL6?
I’m just rebooting my photography skills (used to shoot chrome on Nikon back in the 90s) and I’ve switched to Sony - specifically for video - but I did by the A1 and a set of GM lenses - and I don’t wanna pay subscriptions 🤬 so I’m definitely moving over to DXO…
ONE Question: I have the option to run this on OLED Asus Windows PC or a M1 MacBook Pro… wonder which handles “still” editing… best?

I’m a Mac user only so really can’t say, sorry. But if you already have those Computers then download the free trials and compare!
Thanks! I will switch from LrC to DxO 8 :D !!!
Not having to import was my favorite part of DXO. Want to try version 8, but can't connect to the licensing server to trial it...
That’s weird. But just download the trial as a new user?
I'm trialing DXO right now. I have a Panasonic G9ii and the raw files import without a problem. I also have a Panasonic bridge camera, the FZ80D which is not on the supported camera list from DXO. However the slightly older model is supported, the FZ80. So with the help of Lightroom to convert the raw files to DNG and using a camera type editor CMMR, DXO now thinks my FZ80D raw files are FZ80 files. The newer model of the camera did not change the optics and I like the results I am getting. I use my bridge camera on walk abouts for shooting wildlife. It has its flaws. At the fully zoomed in range, 1200 mm, you get purple fridging, low contrast and other problems. DXO with the super denoise comes to the rescue. So it takes a lot of horsing around to import the FZ80D files but it works. I have no idea when DXO will add my camera to their supported list but I don't want to wait. After my trial I will purchase it. Of course with larger files and better lens, it's outstanding as evidenced by the photos I get with the G9ii and the Leica 100-400mm.
Can you just use the noise reduction only and export a DNG to another photo editor for processing like you can if you buy the stand alone noise reduction program? Thanks
yes you can! Sorry for the delay; I had to get a non-beta serial number and try it to make sure!
@PhotoJoseph, thanks for the great videos. I have been using PL since version 5. Since you are good pals with DxO, could you ask them why they will not provide a PDF manual for the curent version? Many people want one.
ANd yes, PL8 is the best yet!

The only thing that would impress me and have me dropping every other program for Photolab is if photolab had a AI precision masking tool, the other apps have it, but photolab is still behind in this? Why? It’s frustrating to see them focus on every other feature expect for AI masking. What’s the point of all these features if I can’t easily make a targeted selection?
Fair enough. The AI masking in Lightroom is quite good.
Great software, just purchased it after seeing your video and played with it for two days.
Awesome! I hope you used my discount code!
The promo code didn't work for me upgrading from PL 6
Unfortunately the discount is only for new purchases. I tried to get it on upgrades but no luck, sorry.
Very good, pedagogically. I'm a casual Lightroom Classic user, increasingly annoyed by the changes in its user interface. Sometimes, I don't know how to get back to menus. The main thing that has held me back from switching to something else is that I have spent a lot of time assigning the name of people that appear in pictures.
* Is there a way to "recognize" people in images in Photolab?
* is there a way to carry over "discovered" people in Lightroom images, to Photolab? (E.g., are the names stored in meta data, etc.)

DXO 7 user who has to wait for them to include XD2 for Fuji Raw – frustrating… BUT still happy with 7
Thanks @photojoseph! I’ve been using DxO PhotoLab for a while now and I just learned a whole lot of useful stuff I didn’t know from watching that video! Looking forward to watching all the other tutorials now!! 👍🏻
That’s awesome to hear! Thanks for watching.
I had previous PL versions but didnt like how it's highlight recovery slider would target gamma, rather than highlights and wash out images and moved to another raw editor. Does the highlights slider still target the same range?
I’m sure it does. But if you don’t like how the highlights slider works, the curve should give you complete control — especially with the new Luma curve option.
That 15% discount is nice if you want to buy right now, but don't forget: DxO mostly offers greater discounts at Black Friday and Cyber Monday.. :)
Thanks @photojoseph for the Videos (Glad you're back with DXO) I always say it in FB groups, I moved fully to DXO Photolab thanks to your videos many many years ago :)
One annoying difference between PC version and MAC one is the filtering, in MAC I have to click on the menu, choose untagged, then click to select another filter.... On PC, I used to click on the filter menu and tick/untick as much options as I want

That’s so awesome to hear! Interesting difference; I’ve never used the PC version more than for a few screenshots. Have you communicated this to DxO?
They added hue masking, but luminosity masking still requires the seperate purchase of filmpack7. This should be included in Elite version.
Still undecided on upgrade, but xd2 is nice improvement that was only in Pureraw4

Just got PL8 and now that it handles R5 MkII files WOW. I still go in and out of LrC for its management and filter photos (by type/camera/etc) but...... Wish PL8 had better sharpening though as in T PAI. Love that you can now see your NR in a loupe on the photo instead of just in the tiny window.
@@photojoseph yep thanks.
@alankefauver6187 you mean when I’m showing the .dop file appear? That’s just in a macOS Finder window, not in the app.
@@photojoseph I was a PL7 user and also am a Beta tester for PR4. Seems there are some interface differences between Mac and Windows i.e I don't see the sidecar at the bottom of the customize window.
Awesome, welcome to PL8! Yeah a great sharpening algorithm would be sweet.
Shame your code does not work for those of us upgrading
