Epiphan Webcaster X1 Firmware Update… Does It Work Now?

As this was testing the update to the Webcaster X1, we did not know what to expect. We are sorry about the audio quality in this video. Problems with the audio are not new with the Epiphan Webcaster X1. It also restricted the quality of the stream to 720p. Luckily there is always a backup recording to fall back to…and to compare to.

We have this issue from time to time also. Usually only solution is to restart the epiphan (which means end Live stream). Epiphan was not helpful at all. Plus they are in Canada, so they would not pay for the shipping item back to them for a repair.

+Dan Watson Nope. Works on some systems but not all. I'd ask them for a list of known compatible devices.

Watch this video https://youtu.be/PQBeI-AzZvQ and know that I'm not super happy wth my VidiU. I plan to do a full reset on it back to factory and give it another shake but it's been too unreliable for me, especially when mobile.

Apparently they do work just fine with a very limited set of cameras. You'd have to ask epiphan for the list.

Mmmmmm, Id be interested in what upload speed you have. Also what upload speed joseph linaschke has. I wonder if that makes any difference?

Satpaul Audio has sounded fine for us. We stream a live music as well as speaking without issue. The only thing I wish was different is that you can neither see the audio input levels nor can you adjust them.

+Jonathan Dolan No, but apparently it is working for some people. I may do a test with just a camera connected and not go through the switcher and see if there's a difference.

Great overview Joseph.

It's good that companies are trying to develop products like this, but it's clear they have missed the mark. It seems a little clunky and doesn't sound like it was planned by people who actually stream on a regular basis.

Still, hopefully they get things right with the next generation.

Therer are 2 monarch. A small one with 1 input and another one with 2 inputs

+Amaury Jacquot Hadn't seen the Monarch but at $2k it's a different category than this Webcaster. The Web Presenter looks nice but if I'm reading it right, it just converts your source into a webcam. It doesn't handle the streaming, which is the expensive part.
