Let’s talk Apple TV 4K and iPad Pro XDR… (LIVE Replay)

Photo Moment - April 22, 2021

I think the new Apple TV 4K 2021 and the iPad Pro XDR have amazing potential… but will we actually see it? There are distinct possibilities, so…

This is a replay of the LIVE show! I go live every Tuesday 10am Pacific or Wednesday 9pm Pacific (or some other random time if those don't work out) for a show of random chattering and meandering tech. It's a great place to get any lingering questions you have, answered!

The Mimo problem was MY fault! My Mac had gotten a different IP address, which broke the Companion connection to MimoLive. D'oh!!
7:00 and still trying to get started?
That's why there are time stamps / chapters, so you can jump right to the beginning of the actual show. It's live… sometimes things don't go to plan.
Mate... love this. Pre amble tech issue banter 👍🏼
@@PhotoJosephLIVE Glad to hear 👍🏼
Haha thanks. I finally figured it out but man I was tired.
Hi Joseph, sorry about the troubles with mimoLive. Not sure what has happened. Can you please send me the document?
That’s amazing! The combination of the two is incredible
@@PhotoJosephLIVE It's good to hear that it wasn't mimoLive, but I feel with you anyways. We've contracted a Companion module developer to make a proper Companion module which might help to avoid this in the future.
Hey Oliver! I figured it out last night after the show, and I will explain in the next live show (actually I'll update the description now, too). I had plugged the ethernet cable into the wrong port on my Mac Pro when I installed a new PCIe card a few days ago, so the Mac got a different IP address than the one assigned to it. Which meant Companion lost the connection to mimoLive, because the IP in Companion was "wrong". So, it wasn't mimo's fault… the timing was unfortunate, and I knew I'd seen things in the release notes about URL endpoints, so in my head I assumed they were all connected. I should know better than to try to go live without a full systems check, but I was rushed last night. My bad and I'll be sure to explain to the audience! Thanks for watching; I am still loving what I can do with Mimo in combination with everything else!
Thank you for that livestream. I love watching your content on the Panasonic cameras. I just thought of something after watching your stream...if my TV does not support HDMI 2.1 (Sony x950g) and Apple “were” to introduce 120hz via an update, those older TVs still would not be able to take advantage of that possible feature. Thoughts?
Correct. So the Apple TV would have to revert to 60Hz (or whatever is supported). I used to use an Apple TV on a nearly 20-year old 720p Panasonic Plasma screen until I replaced it a few months ago. But the Apple TV's output will be backwards compatible, and just output whatever the TV is capable of.
I just want to specify that I am talking about the just announced 4K Apple TV

I occasionally use my 12.9” iPad Pro as a 2nd monitor for my 13” MBP using Apple’s sidecar.   I don’t really use it for anything critical, just a way to have an 2nd screen when I am traveling.    Is Sidecar the same as airplay?   I didn’t think so.

Sidecar is handled via AirPlay, so it’s the same tech. As I mentioned in the video, I don’t think that can handle the data required for an HDR image, but I’d be very happy to be proven wrong! Sidecar is fantastic and makes a small laptop that much more usable on the road.

I agree Sidecar makes my laptop much more useful when traveling.  I haven’t used it for photography, but it makes general computing easier for some projects.

At home, I work on dual 5K displays.  Dropping to a single 13” MBP feels small, but a second small screen can make a huge difference.
