Nice video but Switcher 4k is soo expensive can I use the blackmagic design ATEM HD new model to get same results thanks
That depends on what results you want. Certainly not all of them. You should compare the feature set and see if the HD has what you need.
太好的视频介绍!
When you live on YouTube again with a new product
Should I be under the impression that your audio delay issue is only because you are using a GH4? I have a 4k Brio (had to drop down the res to 2k), Canon LEGRIA (Vixia in the US) HF R806 only 1080p into an Elgato 4k 60 pro into a Threadripper 1950x beast of a build with a GTX1080, etc (you can imagine the rest of the build). I use a Zoom L-12 <-- Rode link wireless mic. All of this goes into OBS. OBS out to via virtual cam into Google Meets (25 participants hell yeah!). From the L-12, one of the audio outs a Bluetooth transmitter to Bose Sound Free Wireless Sports Headphones (wireless live monitoring; #warrior grunt). I haven't had an issue with the audio sync. Second question - I'm about to make the jump to a Canon XF705 12g-SDI length (converts, I know, but I need to show off a bit for the marketing value) and 3 Canon LEGRIA GX10 (4k out via HDMI all for live streaming live events via Facebook and YouTube with someone working the sound board. So should I be have any concerns before make purchase these next 4 cameras? Thanks in advance and I love these three setup videos that you have done!
Why didn't you use a matrox dvi convert plus? It would scale your input to 29.97
PhotoJoseph I was thinking it would be perfect for your computer screen. (But I forgot it only did 1080i max.) I say that as it appears that you based your entire system around the computer frame rate(which I completely understand). BTW I just picked up four of the previous generation "dvi convert" for $70.
I just looked that up; it’s $1,000 and only does HD. The Decimator converts frame rate for a lot less than that; at which stage of the process are you thinking the Matrox would help?
Thanks Alot
This was THE BEST and MOST INFORMATIVE video I've found for how to use multiple sources (cameras) for live streaming. Getting ready to move on to the next part but I had to stop in and say thank you so much.

I want to start live streaming on YouTube with my two gh4 cameras and be able to switch between each camera view but didn't know where/how to begin. I am a total newb when it comes to video production but I've been faking it till I make it ;-) Right now, my video studio is set up for filming knitting and crochet videos and I just KNEW there had to be a way to use this same set up (with some tweeks) for live streaming.

I still have some questions for you but I am going to finish watching all three parts before I ask because you might answer the questions in one of those posts :-)

Again, thank you so much!
@Angel Jax Yup, I have been watching on flixzone for since december myself :D
@Angel Jax Definitely, been using flixzone for since november myself =)
Pro tip: you can watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies lately.
Thanks for the awesome comment! If you want to get serious with it (sounds like you do), I’m available for hire. Check out http://www.photojoseph.com/support and you’ll see a link there. Enjoy the rest of the series!

"I don't mean to slag off wirecast telestream too much" PMSL it's funnier cuz it sounds soooooooo odd to hear a non british person use the word slag off.Great video though very helpful
PhotoJoseph 😂😂😂😂 I nearly spat my tea out I was not prepared for that it’s something I would say I don’t mean to but I will hahaha love it
haha I have British friends and lived in and/or worked in London for a few years, so I picked up several Britishisms. That's definitely a good one ;-) (although I had to look up PMSL haha)
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Thank YOU, Thank You
Hello Joseph, could you please tell me which is the cheap switcher you use?
Regards
PhotoJoseph thanks for your quick reply, on the min 15 and 30 sec you speak about a cheap one, or is not worthy it? Regards
Um… “cheap”? I wish… my switcher is the BlackMagic ATEM 2 M/E
Hi jospeh. Great video as usual.
Can you please tell me if we can zoom in the image of the gh4 in the atem by scaling it over 100%, like we do in editing?
Thanks
Ok thanks joseph :)
You can’t. The ATEM will crop and scale down, but not up. Sorry!
Just my own two cents, I also tried Wirecast and found it to be severely lacking. A joke even. You've already jumped to a hardware ATEM solution which is great, but if you do have viewers who want to try the software option. vMix for Windows, or mimoLive for MacOS are great solutions for software video switching.
Amaury Jacquot, oh absolutely. If OBS is friendly to your workflow it's a great way to go. It also has the best hardware support/customization options for hardware h.264 encoding that I've seen out of any software for live streaming/recording. Blackmagic makes great hardware too.
Thomas Haynes it's certainely sufficient to post streams to youtube or similar services. I use it on the mac mini with the blackmagic mini recorder.
Amaury Jacquot, you're absolutely right, and OBS is great software and I should've mentioned it, but in the same breath I would also say that OBS's workflow is not that great for creating certain types of workflows. In the video production work I do, OBS would've never been able to hold up against the paid for options I've been using. That doesn't mean that it won't be great for other people though. (I still use OBS for some things.) It's definitely worth trying first to see if you can make it work in your workflow since it's free before you start spending your hard earned Benjamins on vMix or mimoLive.
there is also free software called OBS studio, available for all platforms
Right on, thanks for sharing. I'm glad to hear there are other software solutions out there.
Really cool, thank you!
For the GH4, would the YAGH interface eliminate latency since it has an SDI out?
Thanks!! That's unfortunate though.
+Håvard Njåstad Correct. The YAGH gets its video from the HDMI port.
Vallab Nayak No it sadly doesn't. The YAGH interface is basically an external HDMI to SDI adapter
Was the B-cam on autofocus?
Thanks!
+Sean McDonald Oh sorry you're on yesterday's show. I wasn't operating but I think he was switching too.
+Sean McDonald the wide shot? No. The handheld was sometimes but I was switching as I went.
I'm going to NAB for the first time this year as well. I don't suppose you might organize a little meetup for your live show viewers while you're there?
+Quentin Smith That's my plan! Reach out through my http://Joseph.info page and I'll add your email to the list. Tuesday morning 9am
Interesting overview, thanks. Clear audio sync advantage of SDI explained, I was not sure.
+Matt Diver You can also do very long cable runs on SDI. I neglected to mention that.
Fascinating and comprehensive as usual.

Semi-live today, I missed the start so I scrolled back and watched from the beginning.  :-)Really interesting seeing your setup Joseph.  I have a Blackmagic ATEM 1M/E 4K here, with a hardware switcher panel, (not the Blackmagic one), and Strata on the iPad.  I got a Vidiu Pro last week to play with on loan and may well end up buying one and setting the studio up here for streaming, so it's great to hear about the issues you have encountered and how you have set it up to work well for you.  I'll be keenly following along the next few episodes, as I do with most episodes :-)  All the best,  Andy
PhotoJoseph OK, looking forward to that one :-)
+apntv Sweet. Don't buy the VidiU until you see episode three!
How long can you live stream with the GH5 before it overheats? Thinking about using it as a second camera to live stream local high school sports, but I've never used a DSLR to do so, just a Canon XA10.
+Michael Nitti Like the GH4, the GH5 is designed to not overheat. I can't say at what point it will but I know people who've shot all day in the desert with no overheating.
I would be seriously surprised if anyone managed to make a GH5 overheat, short of shooting video next to an active volcano. It's really something they've worked hard to prevent on the GH line.
That's what I figured. I've gotten so accustomed to Canon and Panasonic cameras over the years, that it seems ridiculous to buy a camera where I would have to worry about that, or just accept that it's going to happen.
Panasonic has always been careful to avoid overheating. It's why the GH5 is slightly larger than the GH4. They made it bigger to avoid overheating after adding more processing power.
I'm wondering if overheating is even an issue with GH5. With the GH4 I've been able to record up to 3 hours non-stop in room temperature. And I've used it in 90º+ weather outdoors, recording shorter durations. But I've never seen a heat warning. I can't imagine that the GH5 would've gotten worse but I suppose it's possible.
Thanks for finally doing a show (series) on your set-up. I know a lot of us have been curious for a while and asking you for it. Since you missed my question during the live show I'll ask you here. What is that stand you're using for your iPhone there on the desk?
+fakecubed Oh sorry I missed it. This is the one; it's super solid. I really like it. http://amzn.to/2mbJyNQ
Thanks!
