Product Review: Testing the Mevo - Streaming to YouTube Beta

Photo Moment - May 31, 2017

I downloaded the Mevo beta (cleverly publicly available on their Facebook page!) and am testing out going straight to YouTube, using the simplest of setups… just the Mevo (no Boost), my iPhone for data, and a lav mic wired into the iPhone. Let's see how this looks and sounds!

Hi. Your review was very helpful. I do have a question regarding streaming to Youtube. How does the Mevo app get around the 1,000 channel subscriber requirement? We are looking at the Mevo as an option to stream our baseball team games live but won't have the subscribers required.
@@photojoseph No problem. I appreciate you replying so quickly! Have a good one!
I don’t think it can? Sorry it’s been a while since I used it or was under 1,000 subs so I really don’t know.
Hi PhotoJoseph. Great looking vid. Do recall what viewing angle you were using during the vid? Normal, flat, narrow...? And were you using the auto camera setting or the outdoor setting? Thanks!
Hello! Have you figured out a way to charge the iphone while plugging in an external audio device to the iphone? Iphone 8 issues with no headphone jack. Going to livestreaming for a long period of time and need the power to the phone as well as add in extra audio. Any recommendation?
Is using phone 4g Lte from you phone fast enough to stream in 720p? And did you have to pay for the premium plan on Livestream.com just to be able to stream on youtube?
Yeah… lightning to USB + Lightning. Then use a cheap USB audio adapter.
quality is excellent
excellent vid, thanks. just discovered mevo and your review is the first one ive seen, nice work.
Thanks for the informative video Joseph. Can we save the live stream video directly on a HDD connected to MEMO device?
No, just to the internal SD card
Hi, did you include any where the info about the mic and connector ?
Watch the show on Monday 12/4
Superb!
+Cris Gherman Thanks!
nice vid. how much lag is there if any?
+sbernardo Lag between live and what’s broadcast? Depends on your youtube settings. They now have an “ultra low latency” mode that’s only a few seconds. But you lose some features when you use it. Normal latency is 10-15 seconds, and slow (but best quality) is closer to 30 seconds.
WOW! Yours looks SO much better than mine!! With either Wifi or Data, my zoom ins were blurry as heck!
I’ll address your comment LIVE right here https://youtu.be/3P6q4jr5llE on PhotoJoseph‘s Photo Moment 2017-10-02
Excellent video Joseph. I am amazed what you can do with MEVO. I am looking at purchasing for my travels and speaking engagements. You helped me with the learning curve for the testing of MEVO. Stan
+Stanley Jackowski Sweet!
great clarity on this. A friend recommenced this item to me as we are trying to do a live FB and Youtube show (talk show) but our issues is signal strength of the wifi or cell phone where we film at (coffeshop) seems this item uses your phone signal? thanks
+itsthedaveshow Yeah livestream isn't cheap. I use youtube because it's Free and good quality. Hard to beat that :-)
Thanks for the Reply. I will check out the other video as well. I looked into the livestream but I believe they charge quite a bit. on a pretty much no budget thus we are trying with our cell phones for FB and camera/computer for Youtube but then again that wasn't working out too well. the FB live on cell phone quality sucks too. I think we need to find a better location with better wifi or cell coverage too. thanks again! keep up the great work. I watch your show often and learning a lot. I recently got the gh5 as well.
we tried to use our cell phone for the FB live and then my camera to computer for the Youtube live. now we just record for Youtube and put it up later.
+itsthedaveshow The mevo can use wifi or your phone (or Ethernet with the Boost). Check out my first Mevo video on that https://youtu.be/mM2NISEUMHo Also it can't stream to multiple destinations at once BUT if you stream to LiveStream (the service and company that makes Mevo) I think they can redistribute to multiple CDNs at once.
I would NOT suggest you use any type of public wifi, you also cannot do FB and YouTube live at the same time (it's against FB ToS). Outside of that, it's a great tool.
