Is it at all possible for Panasonic do you think to improve the focusing systems on current models via a firmware update? (could they add even some basic vector tracking for example) I know the main improvement in the GH5 has come from the higher refresh rate.
On a related note do you think they could add at least some more control over how the AF works in current models?
Do you think the next non GH models to be released with the same level of AF systems or will they be a similar level to what they have now? -It would be a shame for us stills shooters to be forced to buy the top of the line model just to get better AF.
As for future models, I fully understand you may not get much info on what is coming any better than what the rumour sites but since you have at least direct access to Panasonic people I thought I would ask all the same. Assuming that the G85 is the true successor to the G7 for example it would have been good if it had been released after the GH5 and not before so that it could still be the more stills shooters camera and have then had a faster processor and better AF. I hope Panasonic are working on a G8 now that is a GH5 with a stills focus for those of us who do nearly no video.
To accompany my GH5, I got a 12-35 f2.8 mk1 & a 35-100 f2.8 mk1 (pristine condition used items at half the price of the new mk2's from Amazon.co.jp mailed to a friend's address in Tokyo who brought to Ireland with them). I also got the 100-300mm (& 7-14 f4, 20 f1.7 & 42.5 f1.7). Sacrificing dual IS meant getting an extra lens or two was possible.
However.... since none of these zoom lenses are dual IS compatible, should I turn off the lens OIS permanently on the lens and let the sensor IS work alone or maybe leave both on and hope for the best? At 300mm surely the OIS in the lens would be more effective than the sensor IS, but am I right I saying it's not possible to switch off the sensor IS? Could a GH4 at 300mm with the lens OIS on (and obviously no IBIS) actually be more stable than a GH5 with only the IBIS on? And worst of all perhaps the GH5 with both switched on and working against each other?
Please clarify best practice. Thanks a million!!
Love the show, really love the live nature of it and the live chat atmosphere and community forming.
One suggestion that could really bring an extended lifespan to the show... could your assistant wear a lav mic throughout the show so we can hear your conversations for this little moments before/during/after the show?
Without needing to get in front of the camera, he could easily become a bigger part of the show and viewing a little more into your relationship could add to the entertainment factor of the show!
In time, like so many other podcasts/YouTube shows etc, he could be the one to read out the reader questions and bring up some talking points as per the show plan.
Like a commentary team at a sports game, there's the duo of a play-by-play guy who keeps the show on track and then the technical expert who can explain the topic at a deeper level. The dynamic between those two characters is at least half of the reason a lot of people watch sports from start to finish.
Whatever about having him do set speaking jobs during fixed segments, just a little more transparency between you two could see the show viewer maintain interest for longer and the audience grow betting the hardcore GH series lovers!
My favourite part of the show was in the earlier shows, the camera would keep rolling live and you guys would have a little "behind the scenes" chat about how the show went and what went well etc.
Don't stop the cameras recording too early and don't be afraid to give us a peak into those conversations... that's one of the things that sets this show apart from the start! All the best, A
P.S. Hope LUMIX are a paying your triple what any other luminary is getting as your work for them is worth half of their advertising budget in the English speaking world! ;-)
I second your idea of bringing a bit more light to interactions with Joseph's assistant.
Finally I have it clear.
