What I really want to know is how would you take a call in guest in a podcast from this device?
Also I am thinking about getting riverside software . Do you think that would be a good combo for a video podcast that will be doing call ins, live guests and reaction videos? Not sure how Riverside and this piece of equipment will work together yet.
@@photojosephgreat! Thank you . Mine is being delivered tomorrow so I’ll be in my cave trying to figure all of it out . Thanks again
@@thechriswallin ah, then connect a computer for a zoom or FaceTime call. I am planning a video on how to do that.
No I mean a video call from phone or video by clicking a link
Well… I just showed you how to connect a phone and place a call. So, give out the number and answer the call?
I cant help but feel this should have been a Blackmagic X Rode product.
Put some of the video features of rode into the already superior versatility of an ATEM Mini Extreme
Take the sound features & expertise of the Rodecasters into it = perfect product
They’re both Australian companies, too!
Love your answers in real testing and see amazing results from new RODE product. Thank you so much.
You’re very welcome!
Is the HDMI out 10bit to be recorded in 10bit ProRes with an Atomos Ninja V+ for egg sample?
@BenjaminTemplar did you watch this video? I tested the recording of the ATEM. It’s not 10-bit.
@@photojoseph But the Rodecaster Video's outputs only output in 8bit (according to B&H). Would then that mean less quality compared to the 10bit HDMI outputs within the Atem Mini Extremes if recorded with the Atomos? I think so, but I am not 100%sure.
Yes, absolutely. So you could pass the signal through another recorder to capture ProRes 10-bit 4K (or record in-camera).
Is it possible to add a circular mask to a PiP? Like you can in ATEM. I haven’t seen this option in the UI so far.
Ooh good question! No, it’s only rectangular based. I hadn’t thought of that!
Very cool. Thanks!
You bet!
Can you control and make changes to the settings on the RodeCaster Video from one computer (e.g. plugged in via USB or connected over Ethernet), while having another computer, plugged in via USB, see the RodeCaster Video as a webcam?

Use case is you want to utilise the benefits of camera switching and audio mixing on a computer that isn’t running Rode Central but want to maintain fine grained control of available video / audio options.
That’s a game changer for me! Thanks @photojoseph
Yes!
Can you use an iPhone as a USB webcam plugged into the RodeCaster Video?
You would need an app that outputs a clean video feed, like the Blackmagic camera app. I haven’t tested this but in theory it’d work.
I am getting errors all over the place when trying to add media files, its not sized right, frame rate is off, vertical video as an example does not save, no one is reporting this so far so would love to know if the device handles any media you throw at it
Video has to be 1920x1080 MP4, that’s in the manual. Framerate should always be at the same as your device is set to for best performance; I doesn’t test if uploading alternate frame rates worked or not.
Thanks so much for these tests! Can you do that same HDMI output test of an Atem Mini Extreme? Or something you'd consider comparable to the RCV. 8 frames seems....like it may be more than I'm used to.
It’s only three from the RCV; remember five were from the camera (lumix cameras unfortunately have quite a delay). I should test that at some point but haven’t.
Awesome video Joseph. Great info.
Glad you liked it!
Cool help full video ❤
Glad you think so!
Great questions and answers! Thank You
🙏
Excellent video keep them coming on the RØDECaster Video
More to come!
Thanks for the awesome video. One thing I am curious about is if you are able to connect the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 to the RodeCaster video. I have tried connecting the Osmo Pocket 3 to the ATEM Mini Pro but it does not seem to detect the Pocket 3.
It’s supposed to be video out over USB-C, like an iPad? The way to test is to plug that hdmi into anything else like a computer monitor and see if it gets a signal or not.
It's a type- C, so I purchased a HDMI to type-c. I plugged in the hdmi into the ATEM and the type -c to the DJI Osmo pocket 3, but nothing really happened.
I don’t have one. Does it have HDMI output?
: Can the original RODEcaster Pro work with the new RODECaster Video?
I don’t have an answer for that. I don’t own any of the other RØDE mixers so my experience with them is limited. Sorry!
I would like to know if and how you can mute Mic (xlr) inputs during a live stream. Specific use case- we live stream high school baseball games. Currently using the Rode Caster Duo into and ATEM mini Pro ISO. Two headsets plugged into the Duo. The Duo has physical buttons we can toggle to turn microphones on and off during the inning breaks. I know you can do this via software on the Rode Video, but is there a way to have a physical button to turn these mics on/off?
Nice!
@@photojoseph Rode told me this when I asked that same question: You can press and hold the rotary encoder while in the channel setup screen to mute the input.
Not without digging into the menus on the RØDECaster Video. But here’s the thing — some models do the RØDECaster can be connected. Actually I think you’re set… this is from the product page: “You can connect USB webcams, capture cards and other UVC video devices, as well as RØDE USB microphones and even the RØDECaster Pro II and RØDECaster Duo!” — so, there’s your physical interface. That said, I don’t know that replacing the ATEM with the RØDE would add many benefits. Depends on what else you do!
Thanks for more great content in this cool new device. Two questions: 1. Can you do a luma key? 2. The frame rate of the multiview input previews seems super low in all the demos I have seen. Is that the case? Can that be improved. That could be a deal breaker for any serious use.
@@photojoseph Yeah they would definitely need some more keying flexibility for pretty common use cases to broaden the usability and applications. Sucks, because there is so much that seems solid on the unit. Hopefully some of these things are software fixes!
Yeah the fact that chroma key isn’t available on video playback, only on inputs, is a bummer. May be a technical/hardware limitation, or may simply be something to code around. No idea. If they can add chroma and luma key to both input and playback… oooooo!!!!
@@photojoseph Ahh okay, thanks for that info. Luma keys are so useful for superimposing lyrics from existing sources. Too bad about the frame rates on the previews. But, good to know!
My pleasure! 1. No, unfortunately but I could see that being added. 2. It is and I doubt that will change. I think it’s important to keep in mind. This device is really designed for the solo creator. We’re having a high framerate preview of six cameras at once really isn’t that important.
Thanks Joseph, From your professional point of view, do you think it outperforms Atem Extreme ISO?
@@photojoseph thanks
That’s a big word 😉 it certainly has advantages but also disadvantages. I think it’s a slightly different market BUT I also think that BMD is gonna have to stop resting on their laurels and actually make some significant upgrades to the ATEM mini lineup! I’ll do a full comparison as soon as I can. That will hopefully answer all your questions.
What is video bitrate in the ISO recording?
It was about 20. I actually initially recorded looking at that but then it occurred to me that I might change depending on streaming bitrate settings and I didn’t want to go through testing them all — I filmed this in one long take and it was taking too long already 😅
The live stream bitrate is shown in the multivew .. bottom right .. during the stream ... at least from what I've gathered from watching various videos about the Rødecaster Video.
what!! Oh man, how did I miss that?! So good… THANK YOU!
Love the crying. Lol
HAHA hey wait… you're not supposed to love my pain!! 😅
Video gets a like ... before I watch it.
My favorite viewer!! haha love ya!
