UNBOXED! LUMIX GH5 & 12-60mm Leica Lens (real shipping boxes)

Photo Moment - March 29, 2017

We've done an unboxing before but that was a demo/sample unit. Now I have a REAL shipping production GH5 to open, along with the new Leica 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 lens! So now let's see what's *really* in these boxes, shall we?

There are some glitches in this stream where a few seconds here and there are cut out. Unfortunately I neglected to record a backup so this is all I have… sorry!
Hey, so how is the manual focus, I heard its quiet hard to focus with the 12-60.. ?
+KwasnikPictures I haven't used manual with that lens much, but I do with many other Panasonic lenses just fine. The "drive by wire" system takes a little getting used to. Focus peaking is an incredible feature that lets you find and confirm focus very quickly though. I have no problems with manual focus.
Why do you continually repeat yourself,Good morning 3 times, Unboxing 3 times, Why can't you just get on with what your doing.
This is a LIVE show. When watching it later, you can jump to the actual show start using the timecode link in the description, which I mention at the start of the show. Then you don't have to hear me say good morning to everyone.
I just got GH5 and my first impression is Solid, Substantial, and Substance. Built like a tank thus solid. Substantial because it is biggest M43 and may be bigger than Canon Rebel series, but feels good on hand. Lastly Substance because it has all sorts of dedicated buttons and features and options. Wow
+Dan Oh 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for your walkthrough videos on the GH5, exelent. 🖒

Is it possible for you to ask Panasonic to fix the bug when you connect to an external monitor in 4.2.2 10 bit mode like Atomos Shugun, that the custom white balance are not working?

It shut down the HDMI port and goes back to 4.2.0 8 bit mode. I need to fysical reconnect the HDMI cable to get the signal back to Shugun and reprogram the GH5 back to 4.2.2 10 bit again?

/Regards Mikael (Sweden).
Hey, sorry for the delay. I just tried this and am not seeing what you are. However I have the Ninja Asassin, not the Shogun, so it may be different. But I set the camera to 4K 30p 10-bit, and ensured the HDMI output is also set to 10-bit. The image shows up on the Assassin but I don't know how to tell if it's getting 10-bit or not? Let's assume it is… I went into one of the custom WB slots, chose "select white set" and set it. That adjusted WB and the image on the ninja never changed. Am I missing something?
Thanks. :-)
I will look into this!
Did my unboxing of GH5 and 12-35 f/2.8 II a couple of hours ago. No video, just pure fun. :D
It would be hard for me to judge as I have no access to 12-60mm lens. There are some obvious points of difference - focal length (12-60 is "longer"), aperture (12-35 is a const f/2.8, while 12-60 is less bright as soon as you zoom to some 16mm). As for the other optical qualities (sharpness, bokeh) we'll have to wait for people to do the proper judgements as both of the lenses are new.
Serge Broslavsky that's great! I was wondering -- how is it when compared to the 12-60mm lens??
USB C to regular USB wouldn't even work for the new macbook.. you'd need c-c
Hi, I can't seem to find the option to shoot MP4 video at 50Mbs. It only seems to shoot it at either 100Mbs or 28Mbs. That's a shame. Will Panasonic be adding this option as its available on the GH4?
not your call Joseph I realise but not seeing an 8-18 at panasonic's site. now that that cat is seemingly out the bag my interest is piqued in anticipation if indeed a this zoom will or ever exist :)
If you zoom the 12-60 at 35mm what would be the aperture? Just to compare the 12-35 with 12-60.
According to the ephotozine's review (https://www.ephotozine.com/article/leica-dg-vario-elmarit-12-60mm-f-2-8-4-0-asph-review-30597) it's f/3.5 at 25mm and f/3.9 at 40mm. So roughly it's around f/3.8.
Thanks for another good video. That lens looks tempting for a future purchase.

I have one question regarding the GH5. Does it have or need lens correction done in body like say Nikon or the OLY EM1 MK2?

This has my curiosity as I saw a post on a forum regarding the EM1 Mk2 stating that it has lens correction, but only for the PDAF for using old lenses, and that for contrast AF lens calibration is not required.

I know my friends that have Nikon calibrate their lenses. Are you able to confirm or find out if the GH5 has this capability or does it even need it?
+Mark Laurendet No calibration available or needed. I'd expect the same from the EM1 though to be honest. I've never seen any kind of calibration in any of my LUMIX cameras. On my Canon 1d MkIII though it was definitely there, and needed!
It feels great that I also chosen the 12-60mm Leica Lens for the same reasons before hearing you mentioning them in this video. As the lens will be my only lens until I make a little money. So I guess I'm less of an amateur then I thought when it comes to picking the right lens for the job ;-) (you know the Dutch and their deeply rooted modesty ;-) ) But I'm wondering Panasonic also has a Lumix G Vario 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6, besides the obvious higher F stops and a very much lower price. Are the Lumix G Vario series of lenses any good? Or would you always go for the Leica lenses with the same zoom range? Perhaps a good question for the Monday show.
+Floris Easy enough question. Leica is always better; that's the higher end line of LUMIX lenses. But yes the non-Leica lenses are all very good. I don't think any of the lenses are bad; obviously you can't expect amazing results from a slow and small kit lens but I've yet to find a LUMIX lens that I think is sh**.
I have a question If I buy a lens from third party with stabilizer does it work as Dual I.S. Or It won't work as good as panasonic lens.
+SIU LIANG I’ll address your question LIVE right here https://youtu.be/faOZ9hxyjME on PhotoJoseph‘s Photo Moment 2017-04-03
Because of this channel. I ordered a GH5.
Because of Joseph and his very detailed videos about GH5 I just got my camera. I was waiting for something like GH5 since GH3 and Joseph has helped me realizing that my waiting is over. :)
Thank you, Joseph!
Awesome!
This video should be re-uploaded. Audio and video skipping problems. Hard to follow what's going on.
Super annoying. Sorry guys, the source on YT is that way as well. We must have had some interruptions in streaming that we didn't see happening live. Unfortunately since I didn't record locally today, there's no replacement :(
OK I see it now. CRAP. This was live streamed; usually I record a local backup but of course today, I did not. I'll download the original from YT and see if it's the same.
Well at 14:29... as you're explaining a solution to the quick release system... it looks like the entire solution is missing. You're about to say something like "now the release is on the other side"... and maybe some more stuff after that... but it looks like it skips ahead about 5-10 seconds at that point (depending on what you were going to say next). As noisefest01 said... it's more than just a couple of moments... and it's not just audio dropouts, but the video is actually skipping in places... sometimes you just lose a fraction of a second... sometimes you lose a couple of seconds. It's worth watching the entire thing from the beginning to catch all of it. I'm not exactly sure how this could've happened... I've been editing video since the 90s and haven't really seen anything like this since the tape days...
I've just scanned through and only noticed a couple of very brief audio dropouts. Do you know where it was happening so badly that it was hard to follow?

The audio and video keep skipping at key moments of info I wanted to hear.
I highly doubt that. Unless you mean you were using YouTube to trim it... (I've never done that...) But I've never experienced skipping just by uploading a video. Color and audio degradation sure... but no skipping. But if you mean you were editing the video on youtube... that wouldn't surprise me. I would never trust YouTube for that...
15:35 is an example, but there's quite a lot of it throughout.
Nice Video ! ;)
Do you know when is coming the next update (fireware) for the GH5 ?
thanks ;)
Summer; no date though
