So how does this XLR unit sound? Is it anything like the quality on a Zoom recorder?

I haven't actually used it yet, but per the specs it should be better than the internal. Sorry I don't have better info yet for you.
Joseph the grip behaves just like the grip of the GH4, didn't you have it?

Does using the battery extension give you more customisable buttons?
Or do they register as the same buttons as the ones on the camera itself?

FYI - Although phantom power to a non powered dynamic or condenser mic is generally fine, if you send phantom to a ribbon microphone that is not meant to be phantom powered, you will often see a little puff of smoke and find that you have killed it.

I have a question about the DMW-XLR1 XLR attachment. I watched all the way through and I don’t think you talked about this.
When you have the audio from input one going to input two can you set the level lower (by 12db) on channel two so it is a safety if channel one distorts?

hi Joseph, your channel about GH5 is so amazing. I have orderd one before 2 month, but i have to wait. At the moment i have a nikon D7100, 10,5 fisheyef2,8, 35f1,8, 50f1,8 18-200f3,5-5,3 sigma 150f2,8 and a older 80-400f4,5-6,3 VRI. I´m working as a real estate broker. My main emphasis would be to make professional videos and fotos about property. My first plan was ist to wait for a new nikon D760 or so (fullframe) with trilogy of lenses 14-24,24-70,70-200 f2,8 nikon, but this investment is so expensive.
My Question about the GH5? is the fotoquality near a fullframe like a nikon D750? Is it better to invest in best lenses of GH5 and cancell my plan about new nikons? I´m very interested about your recommendation!! :-)

Buddy, you're amazing, but the way you reacted when you figured you could fit the transmitter on the cold shoe, you turned out phenomenal.
Is there a simple, cheap external microphone I can pick up? Im not a pro videographer but for the occasional video it would be nice.
My G85 vertical grip came with a battery. Does the GH5 grip not include a battery?

Its clear that you are not familiar with the GH3-GH4 BG functional principals:
- IF camera drains one battery that is IN the BG, and switch to the one that remains in camera body - THEN you can pull out the one in the Battery Grip WITHOUT recording stop... AND... - then you can insert a fresh one into the BG - but the camera is still recording - thus you can record for a pretty long period of time by just changing the ones that in the BG and using the one in body as a short temporal enegry feeder... :)))
P.S. It all works since GH3... :)))

I wonder if the XLR-1 is a better audio solution than a Zoom H-5.
Seeing a Lumix Luminary have that reaction to the price of the XLR 1 was priceless lol.

How could I use the gh5 with an external power source like a lipo battery maybe, to be able to do 24 hour time lapses?

All of the a-list vloggers got bumped to Sony... almost the same push by Samsung. Canon really dropped the ball on that opportunity.
In Lok's video the camera came from B&H. I'm not sure on the relationship of the Sony/B&H handoff but Casey, Lok, ijustine, Louis, and others all went Sony the same week... pretty coordinated in my opinion. They may not be "sponsored," but a free camera for exposure goes a long way.
+RdotJON Creations Are the sponsored or did Sony just get chummy? I did notice in one of Casey's unboxing videos that it came from Amazon.
