there is a little triangle with an explanation point on the bottom right hand side of the picture. If I want to modify the picture, all the adjustements in the adjustmenets tab and all info are greyed out. I only have 30 of my pictures like that and Murphy’s law oblige, those are some of my best pictures … hum….
The icon you are describing means that Aperture doesn’t know where the Originals (Masters) are anymore. Either they were moved, or deleted. Hopefully the former.
One thing at a time though — is your Library managed or referenced?
Do you have a backup from before this problem occurred? If so, make your life easy and restore from that backup.
If not, back up your Library now, the easy way — copy it to an external HD. You’re going to start messing with your Library and you want an easy way to go back to where you were today.
You can try to repair and rebuild the database (check the FAQ if you aren’t familiar with that) but I fear there’s more afoot than that will cure.
Can you think of anything you may have done with that collection of photos before this happened? Did you make a book, or a slideshow, or anything else, then throw it away?
Pierre,
Well, let’s not go that far ;-) Fortunately you have a backup so that’s easiest!

Never seen that. Please describe what you see that indicates your pictures are locked.

Pierre,
Well then. That’s not good.
