Aperture slower with Mountain Lion?. #1

Has anyone else noticed Aperture running a lot slower since upgrading to 3.3.2 and Mountain Lion? Everything takes longer, and I get momentary freezes that didn't happen before. I've wondered if Apple is subtly (or not so subtly) pushing us toward its newest, high end, retina-display Macs by optimizing Aperture toward them and away from the most recent vintage MacBook Pros.

Fear not. Things are due for a decent speed up with a soon to be released vs of 10.8. I’ve been very pleasantly surprised. Working on big tiffs (>300mb with fast response).

I haven’t noticed anything, but unfortunately I haven’t been spending as much time in Aperture lately as I would like… However, so far I haven’t noticed anything. Was there a specific operation you were noticing a slow down on?

I have a similar problem but not sure whether it was the release of Aperture 3.3.2 or Mountain Lion 10.8.1. I tend to think it was the latter. I can’t recall my iMac being sooo slow and have temporary freezes before that ML update.

Silvia,

by ‘temporary freezes’ I’m guessing that you mean your Mac becomes unresponsive for a short while (perhaps you see the beach ball) then it becomes responsive again? These are called ‘hangs’. There have been memory leak and RAM not being released issues with 10.8x and any app using large amounts of RAM will be the first to display problems. On the other hand … you may simply not have enough free RAM in the first place. If you open Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder, you can see what is happening. Click on the ‘System Memory’ tab and look at the ‘Page Outs’ and ‘Swaps’. If these are anything other than zero, then you are running out of available RAM. A restart will clear it (choose to not re-open all apps). You’ll also notice the open apps sitting doing nothing still holding onto some of your expensive RAM. The more complex your Adjustments become in Aperture, the more likely it is that you will see memory shortfalls.

Hi, I am having the same problems, and I agree, I think it is to do with Mountain Lion. Aperture seems to be permanently ‘processing’ and although it looks like a memory problem, I have checked and it says I have 50% of memory unused! I too haven’t had any problem with aperture running on my iMac before, I am now getting desperate!
