Recently when I activate the loupe it no longer magnifies, the area inside the loupe is gray and changing the power makes no difference. Any suggestions how this can be fixed?

I’m sure it is but let me know if the loupe is set to “Foucus on Cursor”

It is set on “focus on loupe” however, I get the same result when set of “focus on cursor”.

In that case Id try deleting or at least moving your Plist file to the desktop and rebooting. See FAQ for exact how to directions.
