Configuring the Teradek VidiU Pro for Facebook Live

Photo Moment - September 09, 2016

Got a Teradek VidiU Pro and can't figure out why your Facebook Live streams look like rubbish? In this video, PhotoJoseph goes through the VidiU settings and explains the proper configuration for Facebook Live, as well as lists out some technical detail web pages that were surprising hard to find on the internet!

That was helpful. Even in 2022!
U speak waayyy too much about nothing
Your videos are unbelievable valuable for us out here. Thank you so so much!
Hi

I would like to know how to connect my Panasonic G7 to the Atem HD, because for me, I don't have any picture displayed despite having tried all the settings. Is there any particular method????

Thank you.
Can you do an updated version of this topic and tell us how to stream to a clien'ts FB business page?
This is a pretty old product now; not going to do another video on it. But you would need the login info for a page to stream to it.
Thanks for the video. Are these still the best settings for 2020? :)
I NEED HELP! My Teradek Vidiu Pro's software was corrupted and had to do a full reset on the box. Video is back up, but now I cannot figure out how to stream to a page I manage instead of my own personal page. I stream worship for my church & really need to figure this out ASAP. The Sharelink app does not give me the option to stream to a page I manage.
Helpful!
HI ihave a blow bling my video pro the is the Example i.m starting broadcast when i go live stop when i want to go live in still stop unless i go and create another account so can you guide me on that or send for me a video on that please
So this video could’ve been 2 minutes long?!?!?! 👎🏾
Hey man, great video...How do you create the countdown clock? Thank you
@@photojoseph No hes asking how would you make one - hes not saying you had one in this video
Hm, timestamp please? This wasn't a live show so there was no opening countdown clock, so I'm not sure what you're referring to.
Does it not have a web portal that you can log into? I would guess that the web portal would have much more Advance Details you could edit.
Audio is missing some times
It was a live show… sometimes the audio may have dropped, sorry
Can this device work on WIFI?
@@photojoseph thank you!
Yes, but in my experience WiFi is very unreliable with it. Ethernet or a USB modem has been better.
just got the vidiu GO , im haven;t audio problems - enhoeing/interference have you come across this ?
I haven’t, but an echo usually means dual audio input. What is connected? Could your audio be coming in twice?
Hello sir, i can not be live with teradek vidiu pro. What the problem? Can you help me sir..
Please contact Teradek tech support
Supported Output Resolutions

Much appreciated!
Can this record to the SD card and stream at the same time?
Yes
Great ! i would like to buy it, thanks for your video. What do you use for dslr to film you ? Thanks you :)
GH5 mostly. Live streams are a mic including Blackmagic cameras
appreciate you making this vid
Is the vidiu (not pro version) still worth getting for like $200? Are there much better options now in 2018 that make the vidiu totally obsolete?
Thanks! It was great to have those issues cleared up finally.
You can use the RTMP function to stream to restream.io at 1920x1080 resolution simultaneos to facebook and youtube and restream.io will downscale the image to 1280x720 fore facebook at 4000 bitrate. And now you are streaming to Facebook 1280x720 and the same time to Youtube 1920x1080.
Very true. I'm not a fan of that service because it introduces a 30 second or so latency, and I'm trying to run a realtime show. But yes, that is definitely an option.
Joseph it's sheldon I was jus asking you sum questions on the vidiu box it's giving a lot of problems I cannot go live on Facebook , so I'm asking you for sum help. Your videos are understandable .
You’re not giving my any information to help you with. Please contact Teradek tech support. That’s probably your best option. They have quite good support by email.
Very helpful. Thank you.
I share your frustration with the UI on the Teradek. I haven't used the VidiU plus, but have access to the original VidiU. Have you done anything with the built-in overlay features?
I am going to begin live streaming from my laptop using Streamlabs OSB/OSB, VMix, or some similar live stream software. Is there a way to use the output of my VidiU to my laptop? Other way I’ll have to connect camera through a separate piece of hardware
I’m confused… you would use OBS or whatever, or a VidiU, but not both. They both do the encode and delivery. Or if you want to use the software to do the switching then the hardware to do the encoding/streaming (great solution), then why do you need the VidiU stream coming back into the computer?
Resolutions are in the manual (Reference Guide) on the Teradek website. Took 10 seconds.
This video is a year and a half old. The data wasn't there then.
Some great cheap switchers that work well with this system
Thank you for this! I will be renting a Vidiu Pro later this month for streaming an event on Facebook. I used it a couple years ago but Facebook Live wasn't a thing yet. Hopefully everything will work thanks to your settings!
Michael Scrip How did it go?
On the Teradek page now the HD+ resolution is listed as
16:9 Widescreen:
Full HD: 1920 x 1080
HD+: 1280 x 720
HD: 1280 x 720
so it seems HD+ is still 720 but with a higher frame rate of 3mbps.
How change my Facebook acount in my device? Because I want use new acount please tell me
I don't recall the logout procedure but I'd think it would be fairly obvious. Reach out to Teradek if you can't figure it out though.
Joseph, loved the video. I have a question. I stream to YouTube using a Logitech 920 camera and hate the auto focus. I was going to purchase the Teradek to use my GoPro Silver for streaming. What do you think? What camera do you use for your live streams? Thanks, Brian
+HawksFan67Brian Look for the app Webcam settings to control your Logitech (and turn off autofocus). Also Logitech makes their own app but this one is better. I use a Blackmagic camera. See my entire setup here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRe8DcOhgslp8kbjeTNG0S6KwR6_u_dyt
Olá, gostaria de saber se você já testou o teradek vidiu com câmeras sony, pois estou tendo um problema que toda vez que eu ligo a câmera o teradek trava?
Thank you! This was super helpful!
+Andy Trimlett Awesome!
Thanks. This saved me some investigative work!
+strider785 Super!
your vidiu setting link is a 404
thanks. very helpfull.
thank you so much for sharing...
Great video! Super helpful. Just have a couple questions.
1) Is it possible to power the VidiU using a camera's power (i.e. JVC GY-HM600) by plugging in a DC connector to the two?
2) How can you implement an on-screen logo/lower third graphic element into a broadcast? I've read the Teradek LIVE:AIR Solo app might be able to achieve this using a PNG? Thanks!
+ChrisD.ca 1) no idea 2) the VidiU can put a line of text overlay but that's it. No png.
Very well explained. Could feel (and relate) to your frustration. Thanks so much for the help!
will the Pro stream to Youtube? Sorry for dumb question
+Safehouse Studios yes
Jo, you are doing a great work. I have Vidiu Pro but am having problem with it, It does not get READY. Everytime I set it up with events, it says NOT READY. I have rebooted several times, and upgrading several times, but still having the same problem. Teradek have also failed to help me. Any experience on what i can do to solve the problem?.....from Tanzania
Get rid of the the vidiu pro and go are the worst devices for streaming; totally unreliable. I had to sell mine and lost $700 on the sale.
+Global TV Online Hm, what platform? Have you tried to another platform? Meaning, if you're configuring for Facebook, have you tried YouTube? Also have you tried RTMP?
its funny that the website advertises streams at around 6.2 mbps at FULL HD

Really useful as usual - thanks. I find the DC lead pitifully short and the lithium batteries hardly last 10 mins after a year's constant use so I bought a HB-B1 hot shoe with swappable batteries and a D-Tap lead to a 2.1 in barrel from a UK firm called Hawkwoods. Makes my camera totally portable and I can stream for hours. Hope that's useful to anyone out there.
I did the same but a little cheaper. I ordered a USB to barrel (in the right size) and plugged in a large battery pack (adjusts output automatically) I also use it to power the phone and the powered splitter so that I can use my monitor and the vidiu at the same time from my Canon HG 30.
+L4LTV Thanks for that. I will do a complete reset on my VidiU and give it another chance
The Vidiu has been fine - my problem has been connections degrading when the wired connection wasn't that dependable. I stream events - usually within schools - so I have to get the ports released remotely by the ISPs before time and sometimes the signal degrades after about 4 hours and sometimes coming back to a stream after it has finished and restarting means I have to throttle down because the internet traffic / bandwidth through that institution/ provider has dropped. e.g. 200 conference goers suddenly using their phones ... I am at the mercy of factors I cannot control - but usually it's fine. It's just the lithium battery life that's been the problem. I do use the Livestream paid for service but like Vidiu's options of other services just in case.
+L4LTV That's very cool. And the VidiU had been working well for you?
Hi, thanks very informative. I see below that you can pick your page to broadcast to when using a laptop etc. My question is if I am using my iPhone hotspot to connect my Vidiu to FB how do I pick the page at that point. It works now by going directly to my main page but not the page I run that I would like to broadcast to. TIA
+SC Toronto 2003 Girls OPDL Yeah the overlay feature is pretty weak. Glad you got it working though!
It was all in the settings in the platform part of the app. Had to log out and then log back into our FB account. At that point you have to fully authorize it to allow notifications etc and then when you click "timeline" on where to post to it shows you your pages as well. Click on them and you can post to a page. (This was from cell phone). On another note, the overlay feature was nice...but wish we could make the text bigger or change fonts / colour
.... I will have to try it. Just picked up the vidiu so that we can live stream the games to FB. Our page is a page off of a main page.... so if we can't, that would really be bad news as we wouldn't be able to stream games. No wifi connections in the middle of soccer fields yet !
+SC Toronto 2003 Girls OPDL Hm, I haven't tried that and don't have mine connected to look at it. But if you're not seeing the option to switch from your timeline to a page, you may not be able to from the phone. But that'd be weird. Let me know if you still haven't found it next week and I'll look when I'm in the studio.
Sorry to clarify if needed, I have a Canon HG 30 that I am using plugged into the Vidiu
Yes, it was helpful! thanks for doing this!
What's that stand you're using to hold the VidiU Pro? Thanks!
+Other Voices, Other Choices That's probably my homemade table stand (I can't watch the video now to verify). Check out my DIY Lynda course at http://www.photojoseph.com/DIY
