Hello Joseph
Great news. My two favorite manufacturers have a cooperation! I've just bought the RS4 and it's brilliant. Now I'm thinking about getting the Lumix S9, but it hasn't been tested on the RS4 yet. I've already asked DJI, but they have lots of other models to test. I'm sure you have the S9 in your range. Could you try it out? That would be great. Your videos are always informative, thank you for your valuable work. Kind Regards Philipp
Bummer that non lumix bodies have to buy the raveneye to track
It’s a very cool collaboration between the two companies!
Does Active Track require Ronin Image Transmitter? Or will Lumix and DJI RS4 will have active track working?
Fair enough!
@@photojoseph At least it wasn't clear to me. I was analyzing your setup, looking for the transmitter. Then, I thought the mic mounted on your camera was the transmitter. Perhaps, include something like "how to use Active tracker in DJI and Lumix without the Ronin transimtter". Sorry for the trouble.
@Photo-N-Pursuit my apologies. I thought it was clear in the video that all that was needed was the gimbal and the camera. That’s the whole point of this setup; you get Active Track with just the LUMIX camera and the gimbal (supported models noted early in the video). I’m sorry again for making incorrect assumptions.
@@photojoseph Not sure what makes you say that. I watched it multiple times. If you don't want to answer the question, I think it's fine. If you presume all your viewers are pro and understand everything you say, then maybe I am not one. I would admit that because I am just getting started with videography with my Lumix S5IIX.
I feel like you didn’t watch the video

i believe you can fix the bad tracking footage in the gimbal settings by adjusting the speed and deadband areas
Interesting, thanks. I’m also experimenting with stabilization settings in the camera. I’m hoping to find the right combination of settings and make an updated video.
I wish they would implement this feature with the S5 and BGH1. Even though they were popular cameras for their time, I’m sure the updated firmware would dampen sales for newer models
does the active track works only with lumix or it can work with canon R5 ?
You need additional hardware for other cameras. Only lumix does it natively. But yes you can make it work with other cameras. You’ll need to dig in on the DJI site to see what you need though, sorry.
Ahhhh now i remember why i sold my gimbal. Lol😅
Ha!
Any chance the rs4 will be able to use Bluetooth to Panasonic cameras rather than using a cable?
@@photojoseph yes using the usb c cable, it feels tight in the camera but a bit wobbly in the RS4 port.
@@PhotoBooth72 oh really? You’re using the included cable? It was very solid for me. Strange.
@@photojoseph that's a real shame, the cable always feels a little loose to me.
I think if they could do that they would have in the first place
great video as always Joseph!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thinking now, maybe I should back-up my data đŸ€”
DEFINITELY a good idea!! 😉
Fantastic video, Joseph. A specific question for my use case - can you use an app to remotely trigger the follow, rather than having to physically hit the trigger on the gimbal? I shoot in theatres and it would be great to set it all up side of stage and be able to trigger it remotely with the app (obviously the Lumix Sync app would let me remotely trigger recording and subject focus...)
Same for me. Using a GH5 and the 'Tracking cross-hairs' is bumpy so I need to re-press the trigger every 10 seconds or so. Hiring someone for that purpose would defy the whole (so far great) experience of full-fledged-one-man-remote-camera-ops :)
Not as it stands, however with the raveneeye added you might be able to. I need to dig deeper; people are really interested in this!
How smooth it would track a Pastor, 18m away from camera with 400mm to 500mm lenses. Medium shot.
That’s extremely specific. As long as he doesn’t move quickly out of frame, it should do fine.
Thanks great vid. I am looking forward to when the object detection for items other than face arrive. Locking tracking onto a specific object would be great for RE shooters on slider rigs
@@photojoseph I have tried to do this several times in the past, and could never make it work. Was able to do it first time. I think in the other tuts I had seen they were missing the tap on the front trigger to start the process. Thanks again.
Yeah! Locking on ANYTHING would be epic!
Does it work with Sony FX3 or FX30?
Sorry to say, no. This is a LUMIX only feature. Other brands need the Raveneye transmitter, Lidar Range Finder, or Focus Pro Lidar.
Does the auto tracking on work with Lumix cameras?
Sorry to say, yes. This is a LUMIX only feature. Other brands need the Raveneye transmitter, Lidar Range Finder, or Focus Pro Lidar.
You can do that with DJI RS3 Pro with Lumix camera to.
@@photojoseph Sorry I miss that.
Yep! That’s on the list I showed at the beginning.
Any idea if ActiveTrack works with the new S9? (I know it’s not in the official list, but as you noted other new camera like the GH7 are also not listed yet
)
I didnt get around to testing it but most likely it does. Ask me next week and I’ll test it. I’m out of the studio until then.
Oh, I am not much of a typist. Thats why. Frans/Bali.
@@photojoseph thank you your swift and extensive reaction, Frans 😀👍👋
ah. That's much more clear. So you'll have to do some work, but here's how I subtitle my videos in other languages:

1. First you need a clean transcription in the original language. I use rev.com to do an automatic transcription, or DaVinci Resolve (and I think Premiere, but not FCP as far as I know). I don't know which if any service will do that for Indonesian though. So either transcribe your video by hand, or use an automatic service, then clean it up. That means listening to the video and making sure every word is accurate and spelled correctly.

2. In YouTube, under Subtitles, you will see the "automatic captions" and another one listed that's called "video language". At least this is what happens with English videos -- I have no idea if you'll see this in Indonesian. When you edit the "video language" one, you will see an option "auto-sync". Paste in the plain text version of the titles from step one, and click "edit timings". This will automatically put the captions in the right place, based on its automated transcription. Save that.

3. Now, add a new language. Click "add language" and choose what you want (Dutch). Then, click the edit button, and the "auto-translate". That will convert your clean Indonesian captions to Dutch.

That's how I do mine.
@@photojoseph hi, apparently I was not clear enough, sorry. What I mean is, that in my own travel videos I use Indonesian. I live on Bali. I would like to add text in Dutch subs to my videos for my Dutch relatives when I am back in Holland. Just like in an English movie, with subs in another language. I use a gh5 and fcpx. Thank you, Frans.
What’s the question?
Hello Joseph. I have a specific question. Watching your videos I hear and read English. I am looking for a way to hear in regular videos (with voice over) Indonesian and for my Dutch relatives Dutch subs. Do you have a solid suggestion? Thank you, Frans/Bali 🙏😀
There’s no automatic dubbing (voice over). Unless a video is dubbed by the video’s creator, either by human or by AI, there’s nothing you can do. I actually dub my videos to Spanish on a different channel but almost no one does that. Some channels, like Mr. beast, have multi language audio on their channels, but I don’t. And he still has to have those languages dubbed. I do however always make manual subtitles so that I can localize them. My captions are always available in Dutch.
Who are you trying to fool ?!! That opening tracking shot was total CaCa ! It was jerky and unsmooth and NOT useable ! So that is what you get with the DJI RS 4 ? No thanks. I'll pass. Not good enough !
Well that’s a shame because this video is packed with goodness.
Agreed, the stop go was super off putting. I didn’t make it past that intro.
Just like last gen
@@photojoseph Fair enough. Yeah, I think I will pass. I certainly could not give that shot to a client. You know it's weird that it misbehaves like it does, because DJI has the Ronan 4D Gimbal Cine Camera, and it's gimbal movements are flawless. Yes, I know it's a $16,000.00 Camera, but the technology of the stabilized gimbal function algorithm is something one would think might trickle down to some of their other products ? I have the OSMO Pocket 3, and it's gimbal tracking shots are 100 % flawless (If you set the follow speed to slow).
Easy there man. It’s not perfect and if you hate it don’t buy it, but it’s a progression and can only improve.
I’m pretty sure it works with Raven Eye and the app as far as the LiDar and active track are concerned.
Definitely gotta try
Side note, fix if you reuse your description fix this: Start baking up today!
Haha thanks! Fixed!
So no need for Raven Eye? I can just buy the base DJI setup?
Raveneye will add ability to see your image on your phone, which facilitates initial framing. But I did all of these without it.
Yes do part 2 please. Raven eye and LiDAR and as a side bonus with anamorphic.
I hope Lumix cameras don't need Raveneye for LiDAR to work with DJI Ronin
Love the Ifootage monopod on the RS4!
Great combo
My Zhiyun Weebel S3 which came out a millennia ago can do this. Come on
@@Kori_INJN wow. Did I say, anywhere in this video, that this is the only option? Did I say “go buy this now!”? If you’re so confident of how YouTube videos should be made, you should start your own channel. Sheesh.
@@photojoseph No but you can do better research so that the persons viewing your channel do not go buy a piece of gear with features that exist in older gimbals for a 1/4 of the price. Your subscribers who trust you are giving them useful insight deserve you doing that. You do know someone how trusts you enough will have ordered this thing through your very neatly place affiliate link. You are just a content creator and not a real journalist but even so, go do your research and let viewers have a better understanding of whats happen in the industry
Cool, then you have no need to upgrade do you.
Oh as someone training in studio work I wanted to throw up at how horrible that intro was. You can teach someone to do better than that in 10 minutes.

Better Idea is to buy a 12k camera and just edit the movement in in post. I am joking about the 12k camera, but I shoot 6k and would edit down below 4k for a project to get the movement in post over how artificial that opening looked.
@photojoseph  it did watch the rest as you tend to have a balanced view on tech in the industry. I just think you are excited to where it could be and not where it is. It is like watching videos from lazy YouTubers that depend on auto focus instead of just picking a smaller aperture and setting the focus. They end up with AF that is hunting them and the blurry bits are all in a state of flux and distracting.
Well I hope you were able to stomach the intro to enjoy the rest of the video.
@photojoseph  it will get better, but you can do similar with a PTZ camera all be it lower quality video. I just am not excited about it and find the current state un-wachable.
If you insist. It’s not perfect — no. But it’s an amazing capability and continues to evolve. Also of course a 6K punch or even 12K (yes I know you were kidding) won’t cover a wide area and of course a crop has no parallax movement.
But it still look "robotic" not smooth
Fair enough
I have the RS3, in paper is a great feature, but is just too jerky, and unusable in all situations. I wish it was as smooth as the Osmo Pocket 3
I’m sure having it all integrate into one makes it easier to get s better result.
This really is amazing, and your videos are always full good information. One thing, please tell me that you had something on the monopad holding it down while you left it there doing the test on the 10:19
Thanks! I did but only because that’s a hill. It’s perfectly stable at eye height on a flat surface.
Great video, instant sub!
Awesome, thank you!
Very interesting setup!
I think so too! It’s really exciting.
This could be potentially great for wedding shooters catching a first dance at multiple angles.
Ooh interesting
Dang... SC + GH5 not listed, now I want to go spend more money. 💾
@@photojoseph Great tips - and thanks for adding the comment @itscoool-273, I'll have to give it a try! I had previously used it with the iPhone app tracking (which always caused balance problems), so this would be a better solution!
@itscool-273 start by turning off stabilization in the camera. I’ve run some tests with it off and it’s definitely better, but still not 100%. I need to play with settings in the gimbal as well but haven’t gotten there yet.
First, thanks @photojoseph for an insightful, well balanced and educational video (as usual). @ChristianBehnke , same here, got the RS4 (to use with a BMD micro G2 as a perfect one-man-studio solution) but got triggered to give my GH5 some extra purpose. So I tried... and it works out of the box! (tether + trigger). BUT: the tracking is jumpy so I need to repress the trigger every 10 seconds (see another comment above to remotely hit the trigger). So, perhaps someone has a tip for settings on the GH5 or RS4 to make the active tracking stay 'on' ? Perhaps use Raveneye or Lidar? Else I also need to upgrade to a GH7. Oh boy, hard choices :)
@@photojoseph lol
Haha, sorry not sorry? 😞
My therapist sys I need to visit this channel pretty regular...... it's cost me less with less visits to him. Oh, great content btw
Hahahaha
Great ! Is possible with Sony camera ?
Sorry, no. LUMIX only!
I really like the RS4. I have my Canon R50 rigged for it.
It’s so good!
Very nice!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
