Where to store my library? #1

Here is my set up. I have a 17” Macbook Pro with 500GB drive. I am currently storing my library on an external drive.

The problem is when I am out and want to look at or show any images I don’t have them.

If I store my library on my MacBook and reference all the files from my external, will that take up a ton of space?

Thanks for the help!!

That will help a lot. The Library on your MacBook Pro drive will be just the Aperture database(s) and the image previews. You can make that space smaller still by creating (or regenerating) small previews.

Aric,

Robert is right, that’s what you want to do. You can even turn off preview generation entirely, or as Robert suggested, make them smaller in the preferences.

I wrote a tip on this back from Aperture 2, and while the screenshots are now outdated, the steps should all be the same. Check out Reducing Library Size—Dramatically.
