Old iPhoto pictures to Aperture? #1

Okay, so I have a lot of pictures in my iPhoto library, all JPEGs, and I'm not sure if I want to import them to my Aperture library. Most of the photos have not been modified, but about 5% have been. I have been wondering if I should use iPhoto and Aperture to manage my photos, or abandon iPhoto.

Are any of you using both iPhoto and Aperture to do different things?

I'm also wondering how this may affect how I use everything with my new iPad and the new iPhoto App for the iPad.

Mark,

I always recommend against trying to manage two apps. It just leads to confusion and duplicate (or worse, lost) photos.

I’d migrate completely to Aperture, and abandon iPhoto. For those few things that iPhoto does that Aperture doesn’t (such as calendars) you can access your Aperture database from within iPhoto for exactly that purpose.

As far as new iPad, iPhoto for iOS and so-on, that remains to be seen. I’m not running the updated iPhoto (desktop) and since I don’t have the iPad yet I’ve only had a cursory look at iPhoto for iOS on my phone. I’d like to think that there will be some clever integration of iPhoto for iOS and Aperture when Aperture revs, but of course that’s all just a guess.
