Photo Stream Download to Referenced Library #1

I've scoured the internet, and I find it hard to believe nobody else has this question, but here goes. I am an amateur photographer, new Aperture convert from iPhoto, but have thousands of pictures in newly created referenced library (stored in photos/picture data/2012/… on my hard drive). Each year is a project in Aperture, and each “event” is an album within that project. Simply put- is there a way to take pictures from my Photo Stream and save them in my referenced file directory. I don't want them stored in the Aperture managed file, I want to manually save them as albums in my 2012 project like the rest of my other pictures in my picture data folder. I've tried to find a way to 'import' from Photo Stream, and I can't seem to find a way to do it. Alternatively, simply dragging my pictures to a new album I'll create will save those pictures within my Aperture file, and won't store them in that picture data folder. Please help!

Thanks all- this site is amazing!!

Yes… And no…

There is a way to make are the files are referenced, but no way to do it automatically.

If you have Automatic Import Turned on for photo stream, it will create a project foreach month and those will be managed images by default. To reference them, select the images and click Relocate Originals from the file menu. Unfortunately, you’ll need to do that manually, but hopefully it’s not too much of a problem. Essentially, even if you manually import files by dragging, you can still use the Relocate Originals command to move them to your own folders.
