I use photoshop for substantial edits with iphoto as my file store. If I move to aperture 3 do I drop iphoto or is there some use for it. I don’t like the idea of duplicate but unsynced databases.

Drop iPhoto. Aperture does everything iPhoto does with the exception of some printed cards and calendars. However the cool thing is that you can actually access your Aperture Library from within iPhoto (look for it in one of the iPhoto menus) and then still use iPhoto to create those things, if that in fact interests you.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. I think I will use aperture for a few weeks to make sure that I like it before making the move to start again. I have only linked aperture to the iphoto database so I assume that I will have to delete that and import all the iphoto photos to aperture.

I honestly don’t have any recent experience in iPhoto to Aperture transition, but clearly need to dig into it for the sake of this site. In the meantime, I’ll put out a call for info on the topic.
