In the new Book “15 Tips on File Management in Aperture 3” explains how you can Import just the RAW Files you have e.g. Flagged.
When I try this I can´t get any RAW files in the Browser when I choose “Current Filter”. I do following:
1. Import only JPEG
2. Set Flag on the JPEG files I want to Import RAW files for
3. Filter on Flagged files
4. Import “Matching RAW files” - Current filter

Sounds like you’re doing it right. On step four, you’re opening the import dialog, setting it to “Matching RAW Files”, and what are you seeing—nothing in the import window? I hate to ask the obvious, but the same CF card is inserted at this point, and if you choose to view just RAW files, you do see all the RAW files that match your JPEG files, right?

Back home from Vacation and try this on my iMac - same problem. Yes I see all RAW files when choose to view RAW files.

I have done some more testing and when I choose to import JPEG as managed the filter works when import Matching RAW´s.
Seems to me to be a bug in Aperture…

I wonder if that’s the problem then. Aperture does have issues matching originals when you rename the files. For example, if you rename on import, the “don’t import duplicates” feature does not work anymore.
Can you try another import off the same card, but this time don’t rename masters?
If you really want to get scientific, try doing it once without renaming anything, and again with renaming the versions but NOT the masters, and finally a third time renaming versions AND masters.
You could even add managed vs referenced in there if you had loads of free time laying around ;-)

Tested the scenarios you asked for. It works fine when only renaming versions for both referenced and managed. It is easy to rename the master file name using Batch Change when finished with importing the Matching RAW´s. Maybe this can be added into your excellent document “15 tips…”

Thanks so much for testing this out. And yes you’re right, that’s a great tip to add to the 15. I don’t believe I mentioned Batch Changing in there at all… the next rev may have to hit 20 tips! LOL

I just had a very frustrating search, that took me here and other places, and I’d thought I’d share some of what I found.
I did change version names on importing my jpegs, but left original names the same.
Flag the jpegs you want to match, then filter by ‘Flagged’ (control + /)
In the import dialogue, the “Destination” chooser isn’t the place to choose the destination folder! You have to choose the project on the library sidebar on the left.
The timezones have to match! I manually dragged a RAW into the project, and noticed on the info tab that the timezones were different (I either corrected them originally, or finder had stamped a new one on the RAWs during backup).
Lastly, changing the timezone isn’t in “Adjust date and time…”, it is under “batch change…”
I hope that helps someone.
