My Mom is doing the genealogy thing and wants to know if it’s possible to add text into or onto the pictures she ahs on her hard drive.

The only way I know of to add text to pictures in Aperture is to create a book. You can choose the size of the page, add text onto or next to the picture then print just that one page or several pages if you wish. You can then create a PDF, choosing just the pages you have created then print from that.
Hope this helps.

Doug,

Also check out the BorderFX plugin, which lets you add text to photos (I haven’t tried it myself).

I just looked at the boarderFX, that looks like it’ll do it for her. I think what she’s looking to do is add text to the picture to name the people in the photos and probably a date and palce if known.

I just noticed this query from last week. I myself wanted to do the same thing for images I incorporate into DVD shows. I used Keynote and it worked quite well, the one limitation I’ve encountered, however, is that I can only superimpose words on landscape oriented images, not portrait oriented ones.
Text superimposed on images can be put into various fonts, styles, and colors, and many sizes.

Bob,

Good idea using Keynote. You can make a “presentation” any size you like though, which includes vertical orientations. I just tried it and made a slide 1500 wide by 3000 tall, no problem [screenshot]
