Hi
I think I started on the wrong libraryform and want to change my RAW library from a managed to a ref library. I need to export all my RAW files to an external disk and then reimport JPG to my iMac for a smaller disk occupation….
Is there a good way, or any way to export the RAW files with the changes/adjustments I have done to them to the external disk, and then not as a managed library ?
Any help will be most helpfull
Best reg Eirik
Eirik,
No need to export and re-import. Aperture has the built-in function to move your Masters between Referenced and Managed at any time.
If you want to change your whole library at once, select the Projects View in the Library tab (so you see all the rounded-square projects in the viewer) and select menu File > Relocate Masters For Libary…
This will move ALL of your Master files to an alternate location, and keep all of the metadata, adjustments, and everything else intact.
If you only want to do this to one project, select the project you want to move, and go to the same command.
If you ever want to reverse this and bring the Master files back into the Library, there’s a command for that too—it’s called Consolidate Masters.
I hope this helps!

Hi thanks for your fast respond
Will this make my managed library to a referenced library when i relocate the masters ?
Eirik
Eirik,
Yes, that’s correct.
You may want to read up on the inherent advantages and disadvantages of referenced vs managed in either of the eBooks, “ApertureExpert’s 15 Tips on File Management in Aperture 3” or “In-Depth Getting Started with Aperture 3”. Read their summaries and see which suits you best, but I always advise making an educated decision before just jumping into a change like this.
