I have tried to figure out how to print in real world size….
If i fx. shoot a coin, transferring my raw file to aperture, do my edits and then print the photo….how can i make the print showing the coin in real life size ?
Guess i need doing some math, many factors affecting the results…..any clever guys around ?

K P,

I’ve ben thinking about this since your tweet last night and I think the ideal solution is going to involve Photoshop (or Elements, or something similar). The Print dialog in Aperture does show rulers, but if you need to be exact, I think you’ll need something more precise.

I’d open the file in Photoshop and bring up the rulers so you can see the relative size, set up guides at the edges of your known-size object, and then yes, do some math. Check this screenshot in Photoshop; imagine that this purple flower is 1” across, I can see from the rulers that it will currently print at about 4.5” across. Do the match and resize it accordingly. Good luck

Photoshop ? What is photoshop ?
Sorry…well, i dont have photoshop, havent used it since Aperture showed up.
Thanks for the suggestion. I might fiddle a little with the print dialog to see if i can do anything good using that.
Other direction….photosize in pixels compared to output size, but still someting missing to show distances in photo. We simply need a ruler or something to show movements of cursor.

K P,

Right… well let us know if you come up with a solution. It’s a pretty specific challenge. If it’s really important (or for a client), you could always make the print house deal with it :)

If you want to do it entirely in Aperture, I guess you’ll need to photograph a ruler. Make sure the ruler covers the entire frame. Then from the ruler you can determine the DPI you need to print in real size.
