Aperture on iPhone or iPad #1

Anyone know of a way to remotely view your Aperture Library on your iPhone or iPad? I don't see any apps for viewing photos remotely. I know you could use Screens or iTeleport but I don't want to look at my whole Mac remotely. I just want instant access to my library file for viewing and emailing photos. I guess something similiar to the video app called “Air Video”

Thanks

Kenny,

Sorry for the delay, I missed this one somehow.

Check out Pixelsync which may do what you want. I haven’t played with it myself yet but do intend to review it soon.

Hi Joseph,
Just wondering if you have had the time to review the app, Pixelsync, yet?

I was just trying to search AE forums to see if anyone figure out a way to view the photos on an iPad from an Aperture Library. This post seem to address my concern/wish too.
I have Aperture 3.2.2 running on my iMac and I went ahead to enable Photo Sharing in iTunes > Advanced menu option and selected the Aperture Library. However, I think this type of sharing only works with the Apple TV. I was hoping this would also allow the iPad to view the photos but unfortunately it doesn’t (at least so far I have not discovered the way to do so). :(

Regards,
- Derek

Derek,

I haven’t done a Pixelsync look yet, no… it’s been a hell of a couple of weeks but that’s now behind me and I’m looking forward to having more time on this site again.

As far as sharing from Aperture, the iPad isn’t a “pull” device like the Apple TV is. You can push images from iPad to Apple TV, and you can pull images on the Apple TV from Aperture, but that’s where it ends. I’d imagine at some point they will all become more ubiquitous, but that’s the way it is now.

The cleanest way now to get images from Aperture to iPad is through iCloud/Photo Stream. Just drag photos in Aperture to the Photo Stream icon and they will show up on the iPad in seconds.

Joseph,

Thanks for your reply.

Ahh… thanks for the reminder about iCloud/Photostream. That’ll definitely work for now. :)

Cheers,

Though I have not tried it & YMMV, Screens is supposed to do this too. http://edovia.com/en/screens.html

d kenner,

Screens looks cool; I use Air Display - Mac and Air Display - iPad to use my iPad as a second screen. Very cool and works remarkably well. However I don’t think that’s what Derek was after, but just in case… thanks for the info! ;-)

Hi d kenner,
Thanks for the information, but like Joseph mentioned that is not what I was after. For now what will work for me is either the iCloud/Photostream solution or syncing the photos from my iMac Aperture library via iTunes directly to my iPad. I’ll just live with what’s currently available. May be in the near future Apple might offer something more sophisticated or something more seamless to integrate the photos from Aperture on an iMac to an iOS mobile/portable device (such as iPhone/iPod/iPad).

Cheers,
- Derek

Hallo everybody,

this thread is a bit older, but I came across it while searching for a solution to the problem explained in the first post.

After some more research I found an app that works just fine for me:

Its possible just to select which library you wish to store on your iPhone. iPhoto or aperture library. I think I did this through iTunes when syncing.

i normally sync Aperture with my iPhone with iTunes. it will allow you select Aperture, iPhoto or Photos under which library you would like to sync.

in regards with VNC, I have tried various VNC clients and found Screens to be the best. Your IP address on your router is assigned an IP by DCHP server by your ISP. However, Screens provides a mac client that provides your IP address to a server so the Screen client can look your router IP address when you’re outside of your local network so you can be anywhere in the world. However, i have not tried. instead, i opened a port on my router forward my mac’s SSH port to it. DO NOT directly connect via VNC when you’re outside. It is insecure. I tunnel the VNC through a SSH connection and the Screen client makes this possible. For the Screen app, i created 2 user session. One is when i’m outside and i connect via secure SSH and tunnel a VNC through it. I created a second user session to connect directly to the mac via an insecure VNC connection. Screen allows me to work on my Aperture on my mac at home from any where in the world (as long as i have internet connection). i can do more than work on Aperture remotely. i can do any thing as if i was sitting in front my mac with my iPhone.
