Copy Images between Libraries #1

Is it possible to copy selected images and the associated changes from one library to another library. I have attempted this but it imports (merges) the entire library into the second library.

James,

Yes you can, but it’s two steps.

Export the photos (or projects, libraries, whatever) from the first Library, then import into the second. Use the command File > Export > xxx as New Library (xxx depending on what’s currently selected).

Once that’s done, you can switch to the other Library, and go File > Import > Project/Library.

Thanks Joseph, but is it possible to export selected images or do you have to output the entire project?

James,

The command requires a selection of folder(s), project(s) and/or album(s) to work. So simply select the photos you want, tap Command-L to put them in a new Album, then export that.

Thanks for the tip. I was going to post a similar question - that is how to copy an image from one project into another (I have one project for “picture of the day 2011” and other project for vacations, and I wanted a few of the same images in both projects). Your tip regarding libraries works just as well as with projects!

What about copying images from multiple projects into a new project? I want to set up a new project to put all the images I want to order prints of.

David,

Don’t use Projects for that, use Albums. If you move them between projects then they won’t be associated with their original Project any more. If you duplicate them, then you have two duplicate Originals with no reference to the other.

What you’re asking is what Albums are for. Create an Album called “to print” or whatever, and start dragging photos in from any number of projects.

David,

Once I import the project into the new library do I just go back to the original library and delete the project?

Thanks in advance.
