Would Apple be likely to release an update to Aperture 3, if Aperture 4 was immanent? I don’t know the answer to that, just asking…

It is possible. Software companies do tend to release updates for products that are going to be defunct soon. There are even some that will still support version that are 2 versions behind current, it just depends on the company.

Apple are also set to release a beta patch for OS X lion, even though mountain lion is just around the corner. Granted the patch maybe for security issues… The details have not yet been released on what the patch will be addressing in lion.

I just tested the photostream deleting. It appears that you do need to shutdown photo streaming on each device and restart it to get the deletions to sync. After I did that though, it worked very quickly.

From what I understand, the deletion of a photo from photostream only affects that device for existing photos. For example, I deleted one from my iPad, and a warning popped up saying it will ONLY delete from iPad - the photo will remain on photostream.

However, I’ve heard reports that NEWER photos taken, if deleted will delete across all devices. I haven’t tested this yet, but it would suggest that newer photos are now perhaps flagged with the capability to be remotely removed, whereas older ones aren’t.

Would love to confirm this.

I’ve been experimenting for the last two hours with the delete function - and I concur that it’s behavior is as you’ve described - newer pictures automatically sync their deletions across all IOS devices - with a caveat - Aperture integration doesn’t appear to work with me.

I’ve upgraded to Aperture 3.2.3, and, while I can now delete photos from _that_ machine, the deletions don’t sync on the other systems. Nor do deletions on my IOS systems get removed from Aperture.

As a test - I just took three pictures from my iPhone 4S running IOS 5.1. The photo stream immediately synced those three pictures to the photo stream on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Air running aperture.

o Delete Picture from iPhone (“This picture will be removed from the Photo stream on all your devices”) - It disappears (quickly!) from the iPad, but stays on aperture. Restarting aperture didn’t help - picture just stayed there.

o Delete Picture from iPad (“This photo will be removed from the Photo Stream on all your devices” - interesting they use “Photo” on iPad, and “Picture” on iPhone) - It disappears (quickly!) from the iPhone, but stays on aperture. Restarting aperture didn’t help - picture just stayed there.

o Delete on Aperture “(This photo will be removed from Photo Stream”) - Deletes only from Photo Stream on aperture. Stays on both of the IOS devices.

I read through the above notes carefully, and on my iPad, I shut down Photo Stream, and the restarted it through General Setting - Went for a coffee - came back and saw the Photo Stream screen still blank. Apparently you have to flick off of it to have it display the current photo stream after restarting - odd. Swtiched to Album View, and then Photoscreen view - and saw my photos (minus a weeks worth - interesting to see the 30 day limit at work. :-)

Took a fourth picture on the iPhone, Saw it appear quickly on my Aperture - Did not appear on my iPad- Took another picture 10 minutes later on my iPhone - it also instantly appeared on aperture - did not appear on the iPad. Note - all three devices on WiFi at all times. Exitted Photos, came back in - didn’t work.

Force Quit Photos and restarted - Photos _instantly_ appeared. (Heads up - apparently after a restart of Photostream, the iPad Photos can get “Stuck” and needs to be Hard Reset - By double clicking the home button, and then holding your finger on the photos Icon until it started “jiggling” and then clicked on the red minus)

I Went into Aperture, and delete Picture #4. - Stayed on iPad, Stayed on iPhone. I Force Quit iPad Photos , and restarted photos- still stayed on iPad..

Finally, on iPad, delete Picture #5 - Instantly dissapeared from iPhone, stayed on Aperture.

So brings and end to my two hours of experimentation with Aperture/Deletion.

If anybody can figure out how to (A) Get a picture deleted from Aperture Photo Stream to get deleted from IOS devices Photo Stream, or (B) Get a picture deleted from an IOS device Photo Stream to be deleted from Aperture Photo Stream - I’d love to hear about your success.

Thanks Joseph - I turned photo stream off on iPhone/Aperture/Ipad, reset my Photostream through iCloud.com - and then restarted photo stream on the three devices - they are working 100% like a charm now. Only took about 3-4 minutes. Now, I remove a photo from _one_ of them, Photo Stream removes it from _all of them_ - pretty instantly - everything is working flawlessly.

Plus, I’ve got a pretty clean photo stream on all of my devices now. :-)

Well, besides the features this newest update had, the real issue is it messed up “viewing” edits made by Nik plugins.
So, for me, when I use either Color efex 4 or Viveza, the resulting edits are not being shown when it returns to Aperture. I can see them in the thumbnail view but not in the larger view. This has been reported in various forums, so it is not isolated. I am running the latest version of Lion and the Nik plugins.
Really disappointed in Apple’s quality control. This is a major error that should have been caught before release to the public. I wish Apple would spend some of the phenomenal revenues they make and strengthen their software divisions!

Well, as mysteriously as the issue with viewing edited images (via plugins) appeared , it now appears normal again.
Can’t say for sure what happened to fix it. After the most recent Lion updates, besides having issues with Aperture, Time Machine doesn’t back up anymore. Thus, I have been trying to troubleshoot that as well. So, I had repaired disk permissions and restarted, more than once.
So, can’t say for sure if that was the fix for the Aperture issues or not, but for now all appears normal again.
I will say that more folks are reporting the Aperture problem via various forums, so I anticipate seeing yet another update from Apple.
