Thank you so much in advance. How can I keep all my projects from 2012 into one single folder named for example : 2012 pictures ? And, how can automate this procedure so whatever project I do create in 2013 would be kept in my 2013 folder ?

Walter / Joseph, where exactly are those tabs that you mentioned ? Can you post a shot screen of it please ? I don’t see them otherwise I would not bother you, sorry.

There’s now way to automate Folders, however it’s just like in the Finder — create a folder, and drag something into it.

Aperture already does this. Across the top of the browser you will see a drop-down for sort order, and three little tabs. If you mouse over those tabs the pop-up text says “Ungrouped”, “Group by Year”, or “Group by Folder”. Select the “Group by Year”. If you have the Library tab selected in the left sidebar, and then select “Projects”, your projects in the browser will be group by year. Use the Sort Order drop-down to select how they are ordered within the year groupings.
If you scroll down through the Year groupings and mouse of the Year number, you will see that it is clickable. Click a given Year and only projects for that year show up.

Nice one Walter. I rarely use the Projects view so wasn’t thinking about that.
So yes Mauricio, Walter’s tip will help you if you’re looking at them in the Projects view. If however you want to group them in the Library tab listing, then you’ll need to create the folders manually.

Don’t forget you can use Smart Folders. It doesn’t keep your library folders organized by year but it will be dynamic if you create one smart folder for each year. Click on a given year’s smart folder to only see images captured that year.

If you have a large number of photos and you’d like to quickly move them into pre-made folders, simply create a smart album to pull just a single year’s photos, select them all, and drag them to the new folder. Update the smart album for the next year, and repeat. While this task won’t be automated for new photos, you should be able to quickly organize all of your existing photos in less than an hour.
