AppleInsider just posted a link noting on Amazon.ca (Canada) “Apple Aperture X”
http://appleinsider.com/articles/12/12/27/forthcoming-book-references-un…

What's interesting is that the link shows “under NDA”. Encouraging…at least to me.

This isn’t the first time links have shown up on book websites for a new version of Apple Aperture. I don’t put much stock in them. They are as good as rumors. If Apple is working on a new release of Aperture, it will come when it comes.

I think with the backlash Apple has taken recently on iOS Maps and other product issues, they are probably being much more cautious about releasing products too soon. That is in our favor.

While I think the vast majority of Aperture 3 users have high hopes and expectations for the next iteration of the application … I must agree that the author in question has had our hopes up several times over the past 18-24 months with hopeful book titles rumored for publication … no doubt he will follow through with a tome on the subject when Apple does make a release … but I can’t place much faith in the fact that such a release is immanent … though I really do wish I were wrong …

If there isn’t a release of something new and significant for Aperture by the end of February (which has been the traditional release month for Aperture) … I really will have to re-think my plans about the future and my needs …

FWIW, this is a different book than “Apple Aperture 4 - Unleashing Your Photo Workflow”. It’s written by authors that wrote the same title for Aperture 3.

I do have to echo your sentiment about looking at alternatives if Aperture doesn’t receive a major update with features that mirror it’s main competitor.

I am afraid Charles that I am already one step ahead. I have already started to import my library in to aperture & lightroom, I am still using aperture heavily and will do for the foreseeable future until I can get the hang of lightroom properly.

I will however never ever ditch Aperture for it’s books, they are one of the best low cost printed books that I have ever had the pleasure to handle. I also use Apple’s iPhoto for their calendars and cards, that to will not stop.

I hope Apple come out with something early next year and not just a “service pack” to version 3.

The thing that is winning for me is the noticeable increase in speed Lightroom seems to run at over Aperture on my 3 year old Mac.
