I had previously scanned Joseph’s “Demystifying Watermarks” posts and decided not to try that due to two downsides: 1) I would have to create several transparent PNGs and that sounds like a lot of work; 2) it would only work for emailing images, not for regular exports to JPG files—and I don’t use Apple’s Mail program for email.
I just learned how to do a watermark on the iPhone and it was so easy that I thought I would try to find a plugin to do it for desktop images.
I did all my logo’s in transparent png, so I did not have to worry about that issue.
You can however save them with the logo as you would any normal jpeg. Once you have created your template, go to the photo in your library.
The do the usual File > Export > Version.
One of the drop down boxes is labelled ‘Export Preset’ look down the list and you will see your template, select this and it will export them all with a preset.
going to the templates via the ‘Aperture > Preferences > Email Photo Export preset’ is just a quick way to get in to the presets to edit them.
As you can see from my example though, I have no issue using BorderFX it is a really nice and very pleasant plugin to work with. You just need to remember to save your settings once you have created your ideal export and then remember to re-select it every time you open it up to export some photos.

I’m thinking of getting a third-party plugin that will do the watermarks. Can anyone report on their experience with BorderFX, Pixelmator, or others?

I use BorderFX a fair bit for putting a lower bias border to some of my photos along with a watermark. Never had an issue with it.

However if you are wanting to just do watermarks then use the aperture built in feature. Aperture > Preferences > Email Photo Export preset
Then choose the edit option.
Setup a new export format using the show watermark feature.
