I’ll be following the live blogs. I don’t think there will be a big live announcement though, even if it is coming out today. It’s not the kind of thing we usually see in a keynote.
Plus, I haven’t been invited… and I’d like to think that I might get invited to an event like this. Then again, I guess that would sorta tip the hat wouldn’t it. So maybe not.
If not today, I’m stepping out now to say PLEASE don’t release until after mid July. I have only two weeks at home before I go back to Europe for three weeks for my wedding, and frankly I’d like to not be distracted by a launch during that time!!
Saw this come across the Engaget live blog, during new MacBook Pro pitch:
“Aperture has been updated as well. “If you love working with photos, not only has the UI been updated, but you’re now looking at four times the resolution.”
Didn’t hear when, but evidently Apple *is* working on an update to Aperture.
I saw that too Scott … but I think what they may have meant that the current version of Aperture was updated to handle the new MBP retina displays … though I really do hope I am wrong … ;-)
While I really hope for a substantial upgrade I have been kind of spooked since the “upgrade” to Final Cut. I am afraid the upgrade may just be a glorified iPhoto, which would really be a downgrade. Hope for the best, but expect the worst.
v3.3 seems to be available from my Mac App Store update …
with the following …
• New unified photo library for both iPhoto (v 9.3 or later) and Aperture; no import/export required; Faces, Places, slideshows, albums and web sharing work across both applications •Support for AVCHD video has been added • Aperture now lets you use camera-generated previews for faster browsing of RAW files immediately after import • Highlights & Shadows tool has been updated to deliver higher-quality results and work with extended range data • A new Auto Enhance button has been added to the Adjustments panel • White Balance tool now includes Skin Tone and Natural Gray modes to simplify color balance • Auto button has been added to the White Balance tool for one-click color balancing • Set Desktop command has been added to Share menu so you can set a desktop background from within Aperture • A new Manual option allows you to drag and drop projects to customize sort order in the Projects view • New preference allows you to set the background brightness of the full screen browser • Facebook, Flickr, and MobileMe albums are now displayed as thumbnails in the main window when accounts are selected in the source list • Minor terminology changes, including “Original” instead of “Master” and “Info” instead of “Metadata” • Source list includes a new “Recent” section, showing Last Import and recently-viewed projects •Raw Fine Tuning is no longer displayed in the Adjustments panel by default • Faces can now be named by dragging them from the Unnamed Faces browser to existing snapshots on the corkboard • The Faces corkboard now includes a menu that allows you to set the order of face snapshots • Newly designed monochrome source list and toolbar icons • Addresses numerous issues related to overall performance and stability
The update is recommended for all users of Aperture 3.
3.3 seems to run a little faster. A couple of renames on adjustments and a monochrome work space. Presets now called effects. Highlights and shadows now has a mid tone slider, nice addition. White Balance choices are very easy and work well with portraits( skin tone) and landscapes (Natural gray) and studio (temperature and tint). No upgrade issues with existing libraries. Good to see that the programmers haven’t forgotten us. More to come with Mountain Lion I presume. There are some functionality hints.

Thanks Grant. My future wife is from Slovenia, and that’s where the wedding will be. You’ve seen photos of her before… I tend to use pictures of her quite a bit in my trainings. Her site is AlenkaDesign.com.
Nice to hear something but I won’t be surprised if it arrives at the time of Mountain Lion and maybe even OS6 in Sept. I hope its not Sept.

I won’t mind too much waiting until fall for delivery … “if” … we can at least here an announcement now that the wheels are in motion …
This looks promising , even if it might be a little ambitious.

Yup…hoping there’s more to that “UI’s been updated” bit.

Yeah, hope they updates the engine, and added some enhancements.

They have changed/updated the product page on the Apple web site … it no longer says Aperture 3 … but the Mac App Store still shows at v3.2.4 …
Aperture downloads still show v3.2.4. http://support.apple.com/downloads/#aperture
I would imagine there might be another presentation on aperture through the week.
This is not v3.2.4 I think it will be 3.3. It is not available at the moment.
Hhhmm…not an impressive update. Hopefully there is more under the hood.
I agree with Patrick, not much of an update unless, of course you have the new display.

Yep … the retina update looks like it will be v3.3 …
From the Tech Specs page: “Sharing photo libraries requires Aperture 3.3 and iPhoto 9.3”
… also says minimum system is 10.7.4 … does that indicate folks with 10.6.8 are now officially out of the loop?
