Facebook albums missing in Aperture after system restore #1

Hi

I have a mid 2009 unibody macbook pro running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and Aperture 3.2.4. Everything has been fine until I decided to upgrade my internal 500GB drive to a Western Digital 1TB as I have no space left. I had read a couple of forums of people that had done exactly that without a hitch so I gave it a go.

Everything went fine until I did the system restore using Time Machine and that's when errors popped up followed by a 'system restore failed'? I must have tried the process 3 or 4 times which included 'zero all data' first using disc utility and still no joy. However a clean system install worked fine so my only conclusion is that somewhere within my time machine back up is a corruption that's preventing my restore - brilliant! :O(

On to plan B then which consists of me having to re-install all my software. Then to plug in my old 500GB internal drive which has all my system/apps/files etc (as it was when I swapped it out) then drag over and swap over my 76GB aperture library. FYI my 500GB hard drive now sits in it's own external case and is plugged in via USB.

This seems to have worked fine but when I open up Aperture all of my Facebook albums in the left hand column are missing! I am yet to log into Facebook through Aperture for the first time (since my system restore) and it may be that when I do all my Facebook albums may reappear within Aperture. However when I first starting using Aperture I didn't know that FB albums are dynamically linked. I thought that once uploaded to FB one could delete the FB album within aperture. I found this out to my peril after friends asked me 'where have all your photos gone' aaaggghhhhh!!!

Having uploaded several albums via Aperture to facebook and probably a couple of thousand images my main concern is when I do log into facebook for the first time the dynamic link will see no albums within my Aperture library and hence delete all my albums and images on facebook which would be a massive disaster!

Can anyone advise/help on this matter?

Thanks :O)

It’s been my experience that after signing in to FB Aperture syncs with FB first bringing down the albums and photos there and building the albums on your computer. I’ve never had album or photo loss when installing Aperture then turning on FB sync. Come to think of it I’ve always had to turn on FB sync to get those albums even when restoring from a Time Machine copy. But this is just my experience with a small number of FB albums and photos.

Darren,

When you delete a Facebook album in Aperture, you are presented with a dialog warning you that you are removing them from Facebook as well [screenshot]. Sorry to be harsh, but these dialogs are there for a reason :)

And yes Iain is right, if you log back in to Facebook (or Flickr) in Aperture, it will download everything that’s on Facebook into your Aperture library. What it will not do is re-link to the originals in Aperture.

Similar problem, but I did not quite understand how to solve it. I deleted all my facebook albums from Aperture 3.2.2, and then I ignored the window that says the pictures will be deleted from facebook as well. I know I should have payed more attention, now I feel pretty stupid and simply awfull. Please, could you tell me if there is any way to get my albums back on facebook? I dont know if there is a special aperture trash (cause they dont appear on my mac’s trash) or maybe something to recover web files.

I already logged into facebook, closed aperture and reopened it… and the albums are still missing.

So sorry for the inconvenience, I hope you can help me.

PS: I dont know wat “sync” means, I have been reading it in several blogs and I dont know if it can help me with this problem.
