OK - - I just bought a used iMac 27” Mid-2001. Yeah and upgrade from a iMac24” 2009. I used migration assistant with firewire. Most everything works GREAT. Except for Aperture. It is asking for a license key. I originally bought aperture for a huge sume of money and then upgraded to 3.1 right before the price break and it became an app. All last weekend I scoured all drawers and software bins. I cannot find any old documentation or license keys… . HELP … any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Joseph

I have a question? You stated you purchased used iMac 27” Mid-2001. If I remember correctly the first 27” came out in 2009. I assume you may have meant 2010?
I think you will have to have the key. When I updated to a newer MacBook Pro Retina from a 2009 system I just used Time Machine. I think it did ask for the key. However I did have it. If your purchased from Apple they may have a record of the purchase and provide you with a key.

It may be a permissions problem, so it’s worth repairing permissions which may fix it.

Otherwise, if you originally bought Aperture online you may still have an email from Apple, or even from your upgrade purchase. They actually contain the key.

Try searching using spotlight instead of in mail. Use a word that is always in an AppleStore purchase, e.g., here in EU they are always sent from ‘Hollyhill’ in Ireland. If you can find something, but it doesn’t have your key, then contact pro support with what you’ve got and they will give you a new key if it’s enough.

Joseph,

Apple can help you recover your serial number. Use the information and web form here.

They do require some kind of proof of purchase. The details are on the webpage.

And finally while it was expensive when you bought it it’s not so dear now. You may just have to bite the bullet. GBP55 in the UK, probably the same in USD :(
