Deleting "others" #1

Two questions, actually. First, I was the team photographer for my son's varsity football team. I took 200-300 pix per game. At the end of the year I make a slideshow of the best pix and burn it to DVD for the seniors. To make things go quickly I go through each game's photos and give 4 stars to pix I might want to put in the end of season slide show. Now I want to delete anything that isn't 4 stars from the Aperture library to free up disc space…we're talking at least 2000 pictures here. Can I do that without deleting them pic by pic? Secondly, I want to keep the slide show in Aperture. If I delete a picture that isn't in the slide show from a Project, does that picture also get deleted from the slide show?

Wrt the 4-star question….in your project make a photo filter with a “Rating … is less than or equal to … 3 stars”. Then delete all of those versions. If there happens to be 5-star photos you also want to delete (probably not :), you can make another filter for just 5-star photos.

For the slide show question, I’m not sure. I’ve done little with slide shows. And I admit I’m confused by your question there. Delete something that isn’t in the slide show, does it get deleted from the slide show? I’d think no, but I also think I’m missing something in the true question here.

You could try this.
Press cmd-F
Select rating
Select ‘is less than or equal to’
Move the slider to 3 stars.
Now you can select and delete all the images.
This will leave anything with 4 stars or above in the library.
Press cmd-F again.
Change back to ‘is greater or equal to’ and slider to Unrated.
All your remaining images will now be visible.
I do not know about the slideshow though.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I’ll give that a try to get rid of the unnecessary photos. I notice that I worded the second part of the question wrong. I’m pretty sure that all of the pix in the slideshow are the 4 star ones that I went through week to week during the season. Since I’ll be keeping all of them, there shouldn’t be a problem with the slideshow. I was just wondering if a photo in the slideshow (a non-4 star pic) is deleted from a given week’s project will it also be deleted from the slideshow?
