I have 26k raw pics in my aperture trash - I have never cleaned out my trash for fear I may one day need one of these pics. I was hoping to clean up some space and “archive” all these pics by exporting the trash or copying the items to a folder. it seems I can only restore all 26k worth of photos back into their original locations (disaster) or delete them…..does anyone have any suggestion or am I !@#% out of luck??

Hmm…is your library referenced or managed?

I happen to only have one photo in my Trash at the moment in my referenced library. When I right click on it, I am given the “Show In Finder” option. Also, with the photo selected, the File -> Relocate Original menu option is available.

Maybe you could select all the photos in the Trash and do a mass relocation to a folder. Once you’ve archived that off, safely delete your Trash.

If you empty the Aperture trash, it will move all the images from the Aperture trash to the System trash. You can then move those anywhere you wish in the Finder. But you will lose any adjustments you made on them in Aperture. If you need to keep the adjustments, your only option is to use the put back command from the Aperture trash and then reorganize them in projects as desired.

You can flag or label photos in trash. So if you do that before you put it all back you may be able to achieve what you want.
