Images turning green #1

I've read a lot about solutions to this but none have worked for me. Several of my pictures have suddenly turned green, imagine underwater images and you'll picture what I mean. Not all images in my library or even all images in one project, but one by one they seem to be changing. I repaired the db and it fixed the problem, but then they turned green again. Rebuilt the db, no joy. Recreated the previews, still no joy. running 3.3.2.

any ideas?

Hi David. Yep, I understand the original is never touched. Just to clarify for posterity and other readers that might read the post. The behaviour of the browser, in my circumstance, was that the adjusted image would appear in the lower “film strip” (say a bright contrasty sky I´d adjusted and cropped), yet in the main view panel above, the original would show, uncropped, unadjusted, but with a green cast. As mentioned, thats why I think some meta data is getting corrupted. I also feel strangely drawn to the idea that the green cast is actually trying to tell you something. That a version is corrupted, or a file pointer is missing. I think its probably diagnostic, to those who know these things. or at least its a clear symptom of an underlying issue. For me, this occurred for the first time after trying to restructure my taxonomy, moving files and folders and projects around. Again, as mentioned, currently, its not a big deal. I´m fully backed up, and not yet good enough to worry about a few trial and error adjustments that I might need to do again. However, I would like to know what I did to create the problem so that I can avoid it in the future when it could be a real pain.

Well…

However, I would like to know what I did to create the problem so that I can avoid it in the future when it could be a real pain.

You didnt do anything intentionally except upgrade aperture or the OS or repair the lib. We are at the mercy of Databases fallibility and Apple making improvements. “Young GrassHopper…if there is no pain in life there can be no Growth” Or some BS like that.

Hi Allison!!

Are these Raw images that are changing or are some of them jpgs & Tiffs. I have had my Raw images do this so I had to reprocess them via AP … Photo … Reprocess original. Once reprocessed they stayed fixed. You might take the plist files and Cache file out and reboot before trying again. Ill keep thinking about it. Hopefully others will join in with their thoughts. dbmoore

w00t! thanks David! Reprocess Originals fixed the green tint. So bizarre how this happened as I didn’t process these images at all (RAW btw), they simply flipped to green while I was looking at them, and trying to reset white balance didn’t help at all, as I hadn’t set the white balance to anything other than the original.

you rock, David!

Hi
I had the same issue. The images seem to load, then “snap” to a green colour cast. This is clearly a “data” issue. Something is causing them to render differently. The “reprocess original” works, in so far that it removes the “colour cast”. However, as i work through the offending images I see that the preview image is one thats been adjusted, yet the “green” cast appear to be on the original image. Also, the meta icon at the bottom right does not indicate that the image has been adjusted, yet it clearly has been. As I “reprocess original” the phantom adjustments are lost and the image reverts to its original “raw” status. No big deal for me, I´m just getting to grips and learning and making my mistakes. But I´d hate for this to occur when my library is large, and I´ve invested many man years in my adjusted images. It would be good to understand how this occurs, and if theres a way to preserve the adjustments (if they havent been lost to the ether in what ever corruption caused the cast in the first place!)

Hi Howard
The Original image is never touched by changes made in AP. The problem I think is in the data (as you stated) base. If you still have trouble repair the Data base by holding the command + option keys when starting, and do all three items in order. See FAQ first. So far Ive had lots of trouble with my Database but I never have lost an image…time I have lost …in repairing the db. Right now Im all good …. knock on wood.
