I have first checked the FAQs and the user forum for this but found nothing relevant.
After finishing editing and using a given Project I export it as “Project as Library” to an LaCie external hard drive from my MBP with 10.7.4. With Aperture 3.3.1, before yesterday's upgrade to 3.3.2, I could always re-import them back to the MBP from the external drive and merge the “internal” and external Libraries and proceed to work on the images in one merged Library.
Yesterday I upgraded to Ap 3.3.2 and was told my Library ( on the MBP, I suppose ) would need to be upgraded. I clicked “OK” and everything went fine and now the UI looks like 3.3.2 is supposed to look ( i.e. gray not colored column at left ).
Today I tried to re-import into 3.3.2 some images created in 3.3.1 and previously exported to the LaCie drive as a “Project as Library” but was told I couldn't do that because (I'm typing in the message here since you won't allow including screenshots):
“The LIbrary could not be imported because it is from an out of date version of Aperture 3. Please upgrade the library to the latest version of Aperture 3 and try again”
That's all good and fine BUT - since my main MBP Library was upgraded yesterday DURING the upgrade while still WITHIN 3.3.1, how in the world do I upgrade for import the Project created in 3.3.1 on the external hard drive if I can't get it into 3.3.2 in the first place, per the above message ?
I assume, and hope, that I'm just missing something here but am very frustrated by this glitch. Any help will be most appreciated. Thank you

Quit Aperture first. Double click the library icon you want to upgrade on the external drive and Aperture will do the upgrade. You need to upgrade before merging.

Just open the library and Aperture will upgrade it. Then switch back to your main library and do the import.
BTW, you can open a library by double-clicking on it in the Finder. If Aperture is already open it will ask if you want to switch to it.

Your suggestion to “open the Library and Aperture will upgrade it” was not clear to me - open the main Library in Aperture itself or on the external hard drive ? The dilemma is :
# yesterday when I moved to 3.3.2 I got a message - do I want to upgrade the Library ? I replied OK/yes and it was done on the screen [albeit in a time span much less than I expected given the warnings about time and given the approx 6,000 images /200 GB in Ap’s Library]. If it was so quick maybe the Library wasn’t updated afterall. So, looking for info on how to do it, I put “upgrade Library” in the Aperture Help box but got no answer links at all.
# so I thought “maybe Thomas meant ‘open the [previously-exported] LIbrary’ on the
external hard drive”. I clicked on the exported Library’s icon/title in the external hard drive icon on the desk top but then I received the identical error message as when I tried to import it under File in Aperture as in paragraph 5 in my original post, above. So, I’m back to nowhere.
Could you clarify where & how I am to perform the upgrade of which Library [ main one in Aperture itself or the Project-exported-as Library on the external hard drive } ?
