Here's a new one. I loaded some images onto Aperture this afternoon. I had a pop up telling me something about no autheration for some of the images, and instructed me to place them on my desktop. I did. They wern't images but a document image.
I was able to work in Aperture. Now, several hours later I try to open the program and all I get is the open aperture library with the spinning wheel. What's going on?

Steve,

Never heard of this before either, but I also don’t know what you mean by “document image”. Can you be more precise… what is the file extension? What types of files did you load into Aperture in the first place?

wish I could help you with this. I didn’t pay much attention to it at the time. I’m using 3.3.2. Uploaded about 50 images yesterday afternoon. Went through the postporduction with them, then moved around projects to folders to straighten up my library. Went back latter and now aperture wont open. When I try to open it I get the spinning bars, says opening aperture, but nothing happens. I do get the aperture menu items showing up at the top. I can click on them as though aperture is open, but no main screen comes up.
Thanks Steve

Steve,

OK, let’s just get Aperture running again.

Hold down Command-Option while launching Aperture, and you’ll get the Library Repair dialog. Do a repair on the that Library (read more about that in the FAQ).

If for some reason you can’t even get to that dialog (i.e. it just launches straight through to the stuck state without giving you the repair dialog), then launch again holding just the Option key, which will bring up the Library Chooser. Create a new Library and open that, then quit Aperture, launch again holding down Option to get the Chooser, choose the damaged Library, then hold down Command-Option again when you open that Library.

That did it! Command-Option took care of the problem. Aperture is back and running well. Need to write this repair down. Thanks again.

Great to hear Steve. Yeah this is one of the most basic repairs and should always be considered when you’re having library issues.

Read the FAQ for more tips on maintaining a healthy library!

Very interesting…I just had this same problem. I WAS able to get to the permission/library repairs, and even the database rebuild, but after doing all of that, I just got that spinning gear like Steve did.

I tried your method, Joseph, and it fixed the issue. However, all I had to do was create a new library, quit, open AP with option-key, select the damaged library, and it opened. Maybe this worked because I already did some repairs on it…go figure. Incredible tip….Thanks!
