Hoping someone can help me. I currently have a situation where I need to shoot both RAW and JPG, and import both into my Aperture library. The problem is that I only need to export the RAW original. But when I tell Aperture to export the original it exports both the RAW and the JPG. Is there a clean way to have it export only the RAW original?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

RAW+JPG exporting original
#1
Jim,
Thanks, what you mentioned will work. I was trying to import the JPG’s first so I could make some quick selections and then import the RAW files using the matching raw files option; so that I was only importing the RAW files I needed.
I wish there was an option on export original to choose between RAW, JPG or Both if you use RAW+JPG.
I have been using Managed vs Reference, but I may think about changing that. I like having aperture take care of everything, but as I run out of space on my drive and I have to move the file to a larger hard drive, it does get old. I will have to investigate it more.
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

When you performed the import, what setting did you use for “RAW + JPEG Pairs” in the import settings?
Turns out, if you choose “Both (Separate Originals)” then only the selected file type (RAW or JPEG) will be exported as an original.
But if you chose one of the other options for “Both…” then both file types will be exported.
Sounds like you are using a managed library. You could avoid all of this by using a referenced library. Then your RAW originals will be stored outside of the Aperture library in whatever folder you specify, and you don’t have to do the “Export Original” thing.
