Sharpening issues #1

Lately I've noticed very little change when I sharpen my images. I'm using a Canon 60D with a variety of lenses, ranging from a Tamrom ultra wide f2.8 to a 70-200 f 2.8 L lens. I have the latest version of Aperture, I capture my images in jpeg high res. or RAW. As a experiment, I've gone back to past images and maxed out the sharpening function and it seems to have a minimal effect. Any ideas?

Hi Steve, I just pulled a smart album for my 60D and looked at a raw file. I could see edge sharpen work. My settings were intensity 1.0 edges .7 and falloff .8.. If you have the same settings and still do not see any difference then Id think about trashing the Plist file. Im a little lost and guess Id reinstall AP after that. Write back and tell us what you find. What osX do you have and what AP version?

Thanks for the advise. I have 10.7.5 and Aperture 3.4.5. I’m noticing something different. I use the quick adjustment arrow for retouch and sharpening, then pop up display shows. I’ll decide what strength I want with the slider. Normally this works with the sharpening block to the left which has intensity and radius. But now when I use the arrow at the bottom bar the block that opens is Sharpen with amount as my only option. For this example: I click sharpen with the bottom arrow. The pop up opens (with brushes, softness and strength) I up the intensity to 1, apply to entire photo. Nothing happens. But when I go to the sharpen block with only amount then I use the slider my sharpening works. If I don’t click apply to entire photo and only use the amount slider nothing happens.

That popup sounds like you are trying to brush in the sharpening?

I’m not trying to brush in sharpening. I do and have been using the arrow for quick access to the sharpening tool. I photograph my daughters soccer games, and since varsity is in high gear, and all the parents want images of their daughters, I’m editing several hundred images per game at least twice a week.
This discussion is helping. My next questions are: How did I get two sharpening tools? Which one is best used in Aperture and the population of Aperture users?
