When I import images they go automatically into Photo Stream, and into the Project.Why are they going into Photo Stream? Is it necessary? I thought Photo Steam was only for my iPhone. Hope someone can clarify?

There’s a preference setting for that. It’s on by default. Go to Aperture->Preferences… and look for the Photo Stream settings. There is one for auto uploading newly imported files. Uncheck it.
