Does anyone else have a good feeling about the Oct 22nd event? Announcement of new iPad, more details and release date for Mac Pro. Seems to be perfect storm for new version of Aperture for Mac and companion app for iPad. Rumors have been swirling about new version of Final Cut as well. What better event to announce pro apps? Guess we will know in a couple of weeks. Hope I'm not just wishful thinking.

Maybe the photographer on the MacPro was running Lightroom. ??

Yep, Stu, I guess so. At least it was most definitely mentioned so it’s coming at some point.

yeah that little tip o’ the hat means a LOT. It tells us without a doubt that a new Aperture is coming.

I am in the process of installing Maverick on my MacBook Pro 15” Retina Display. So far it is still downloading. I assume it will be slow. Just like to see how well it works with both Aperture and Lightroom and the new iPhoto and iMovie.

I just noticed Apple website this about Aperture 3.5 :

Testing conducted by Apple in October 2013 using preproduction Mac Pro 12-core 2.7GHz units with 1TB flash storage and AMD FirePro D700 graphics, and shipping Mac Pro 12-core 3.06GHz units with 512GB SSD and ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics. All systems configured with 64GB of RAM. Tested with prerelease OS X 10.9 and prerelease Aperture 3.5 using RAW images. Performance tests are conducted using specific computer systems and reflect the approximate performance of Mac Pro.

Ok it took me just under 95 minutes from download to installing of Maverick. Had no issues when installing. Both Aperture, iPhoto and along with Lightroom 5.2 opened and ran with no issues as far as I could tell. Aperture Library/Lightroom Catalog are stored on a Drobo 5D via Thunderbolt. Also did some fast testing with Nik Software with Aperture and had no issues. Now need to test other plug-ins.

Maybe the 3.5 is for Maverick. Adobe keep coming with new version and new numbers. When you look at what they deliver, most of the time not much, but a lot of noise about it. I have been using Adobe software for 20 years and I know that most of their upgrades just solve problems they did not solve in the previous version plus had few features that I don’t really need and they charge for that and now they want to charge forever on a monthly basis. Since Aperture 3 we had a lots of improvements and new features that are really worth it and at no cost. For myself I use third party plugins like Nik and DXO and I am satisfied with the result.

Echoing Stu’s comments … no issues with Mavericks on a Mac Book Pro. I’ve tried out several of the Nik plugins and Perfect Photo Suite 7.5, no major issues. My random and haphazard notes http://sdaven.blogspot.com/2013/10/os-x-mavericks-aperture.html

Aperture 3.5 is available via Software Update after you upgrade to Mavericks. It comes via a 557MB download.

Installed Mavericks - ran Aperture 3.4.5 - no problems.
Issue - not seeing an Update to 3.5 in App Store. Original purchases and upgrades were pre App Store, so is there something I need to do here?

Well, I guess I am starting to now have issues as I do not see any updates for Aperture 3.5 after installing Maverick. I do see updates for iPhoto and iMovie, however I get this error when trying to update:

Failed to verify the preflight file. It is not signed by Apple. The application will be available from the Purchases page.

I bought Aperture 3 prior to MAS ($200 in the day). So in the MAS, I always see the $80 price and it’s not in my purchased apps on the store. I wonder how to go to 3.5?

Just a followup to my issue about Aperture, iPhoto and iMovie. I was just contacted by the Apple Team as I posted this problem in the Apple Forum. So it looks like Apple is monitoring the forum this evening. Had to send them some info and hope to hear back from them soon with a solution.

Another interesting thing they did is separate the pro apps from the normal apple apps on their site. They used to be all grouped together.

As Joseph has said at least they are letting us know that they are still working on the program. I just hope that after all the waiting we have done that they really WOW us with a new version. I wonder if all the feedback they got for Final Cut pushed back development for Aperture. I guess the next date we can hope for is sometime in Dec.

Yep that was a nice little tease wasn’t it… maybe we can assume that we’ll have Aperture by the end of the year, along with the Mac Pro!

Looks like no Aperture X announcement.
Have a feeling it will be coming when the new Mac Pro starts shipping in December.

Ive done the sums, even emailed Tim Cook, and hit him up on Twitter about the abysmal upgrades of Aperture. Between 1-2 it took 26mths between 2-3 it took 24mths and now 3-4?? Its been 45 Loooong bloody months.
Im hoping on the 22nd they release a Retina iPad Mini, which ill buy online straight away, but im really hoping they will do some major upgrades to the “PRO” apps.

Aperture is the only Apple App that hasnt had any Major Upgrades for some time, like 45mths and im really really really hoping that they get some look in soon.
As i told Tim, im afraid for Aperture that it is going to be left behind, as i have had a handful of friends move over to LR for now, just because LR has a huge database of lens profiles that can eliminate distortion and chromatic aberration on the worst lens.
Thats all it took for them to move over, and it is reasonably priced compared to other Adobe Apps. Im afraid that Aperture will be left behind :( But as with you Darrell, we can both hope mate !!!!
