Adjusting Dates #1

I have a large number of slides that I have scanned and loaded into Aperture. The photos are stored in folders and projects organized by year and month shot. I want to select a group of photos and change the date to reflect the date shot instead of the date scanned. “Adjust Date and Time” doesn't work, since it maintains the relative dates between the photos based on when they were scanned. I want all the photos to have exactly the same date, actually just the year and month since that is all I really know. I know I could do this one photo at a time, but that would take way too long. And finally, once I have the Aperture dates corrected, I would like push this data back out to the masters, if possible. I have tried changing the dates in the master files and then update from original or reprocess original, but nothing seems to force Aperture to reload the dates once it has them in its library. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Hi William,

I have been moderately successful in doing what you are asking. Using “Adjust Date and Time”. Checking the “Also change master file” causes problems though. What I believe is happening is that when scanning the matching data filed is null or not created, so Aperture is trying to write to a tag that doesn’t exist.

What I’ve done on new scans is save to file, then do all rotations in Adobe Bridge, then redate using BatchTouchMac, then import to Aperture. This then puts everything in its rightful date place in Aperture.

Since you have already imported, just go back and redate your scan archive as mentioned (provided they are not Aperture reference files, not sure what would happen then). Hope this helps.

I forgot to add that using Vuescan I manually enter the desired date in the “Date”, then still redate using BatchTouchMac. This rewrites as many of the date fields as I can. Kind of a belt and suspender approach but its been working for me.
