“The library could not be imported because it is from an out of date version of Aperture 3. Please upgrade the library to the latest version of Aperture 3 and try again.”
My library which I want to access is in Aperture 3.1.1
I am now using Aperture 3.5.1.
How do I get them in so I can use them again?
Instead of importing them, open the 3.1.1 Library directly. Aperture will recognize that it needs to upgrade the library and do so. After that, switch to the 3.5.1 Library you want to import them into. Them import should now work.

I tried that but I am running Maverick and it doesn’t work. Another solution?
Is it the conversion that doesn’t work or the import? (I’ve been doing this for several files the last few week, on Mavericks, without problems)

I try to open them directly and it tells me to import them, then it doesn’t do it.
I’m having the same issue. Upgraded to 3.5.1 on a rMBP from a 2008 macbook running Snow Leopard. It says it needs to restart Aperture to update the different library I select, it closes then reopens the same library. Should I try restore library from vault?
Exit Aperture. Navigate to the Library you want to update via Finder. Double-click that Library.
