for the past few months i have been dealing with aperture freezing, the terrible part is that its freezing my entire computer and i am not even able to force quit, i have to manually shut down my computer.  when i reopen aperture it generally asks me to repair the data base which i do and all is good sometimes for a day or so that is it.  can anyone help me, how can i get this to stoop happening?

thank you

Hi Naomi

Try reading the FAQ section for Maintenance.  Free HD space and the Amount of Ram you have can play a factor.  Start in Utilities and use Disk Util for repair of HD and system permission repair.  Then use the option command keys when starting AP to do the three steps,  permissions,  repair and Rebuild.   Let us know if that helped cuz if not we have more Voodoo steps for you.  cheers

Good that you freed up HD Space.  Is the Lib on the same drive as the operating system?  If not how much free space do you have for the main HD?

Try Disk Utilities in the Utilities folder of your HD and repair disk or verify Disk on the Main operating system HD.  You may have to do this from the recovery portion of your HD if its got it.

Also delete the AP preference file and re boot and try again.

Or you may have a corrupted image or video file.   Are you working the images in another program like Photoshop with layers and then re importing them into AP.  If it is a bad image you may have to divide the Lib into smaller libraries to see which lib has the problem.  Then you will be able to find problems

See FAQ for AP Maintenance   let us know and tell us how much Ram is on your model of Mac.  Cheers

i repaired the disk utility on the main hard drive

ill delete the ap preferences and reboot

yes i open in photoshop and resave images there, if it is happening daily on different projects does it make sense there is a bad image?

Delete the user preferences

You can resolve many issues by restoring Aperture back to its original settings. This will not impact your image files or your library. To reset your Aperture user preference settings to their original state, do the following:

  1. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences. Note: The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
  2. Remove the “com.apple.Aperture.plist” file from the Preferences folder.

i followed this and my preferences are still there

Wow!  You are having fun!!!  If you create a new user on your computer and boot into that do you have the same problem when operating AP?    If you have the same problems then you could reinstall Ap to see if that helps.  How much ram do you have??  This only happens when running AP?   Hang in there !  dbm
