Have Others Updated Newest Mavericks Update. Huge Improvement in Aperture Speed. #1

Just a note for those who haven’t updated newest Mavericks update. Aperture now is a Rocket! After updating to first version of Mavericks my Aperture Library was constantly beach balling, especially when reviewing image with the Loupe at 100%. No more. It’s nearly instantaneous. Huge, huge improvement. Loving it. Just an FYI

Are you referring to OS X 10.9.2 released today?

Now that you mention I opened Aperture and there is a definite increase in speed within the program.  Like it!

I just installed the OS X 10.9.2 update … haven’t really noticed any marked improvement … then, I wasn’t suffering any lag previously … even went back and opened some rather large libraries … though, I am glad they fixed the SSL issue …

Fortunately it’s been a big boost for me. The minute the update came out I downloaded it. At the exact time the update was released I was in the process of editing a library of 25,000 images. During the process of reviewing each image, with the loupe at 100%, I would get a hesitation before the loupe kicked in so too speak. I would also sometimes get the spinning beach ball. This has all been going on since I installed Mavericks so it’s been common for several months. The second my computer came back to life from the update, the hesitation in the loupe and the spinning beach ball was gone. Not to mention scrolling seems more snappy as well. For me it’s been a huge improvement in Aperture. Might just be  the differences in Macs or something but I work weekly with a main library of 600,000 images and smaller libraries on a more regular basis. Have not seen if there is any benefit to the update for my main 600,000 image library but will report back when I get a chance.

I didn’t want to believe it, but YES my Aperture also seems MUCH snappier. I have no idea what Apple did, but this is amazing!

Maybe they had to fix it before releasing the “new” Aperture!

Do you know something we don’t? Personally, I’ve all but given up on Aperture 4/X ever appearing :-(

I have also noticed a speed up in the plug in version of Perfect Suite 8.

Unfortunately I’ve come across an issue. Though most everything has increased in speed, that’s not the case for “Reconnecting Referenced Files”. I tried reconnecting about 7000 images and what used to take maybe an hour was still not finished after 3-4 hours. I finally stopped it. Ran Repair Permissions and Repair Library on the Library. Didn’t help. I called Apple and they had me remove aperture plist. That didn’t work. Trying to reconnect just 500 images, decided to go small to start with and after 10 mins it’s still only thirty percent complete. Must be some sort of bug. Rats…………………

Was hoping the upgrade would resolve some previous problems. However it has created a new one - the response ” you can’t open the application because it’s not supported on the kind of Mac”! Any tips?

Try trashing your preferences. If that doesn’t do it create a new user and launch there, and let us know how that goes.

I believe that there are memory issues fixed in 10.9.2, which probably have affected Aperture in a positive way.

Just to add one more voice, I am seeing about a 30% increase in image-load speed with the new operating system. I’m using a late 2010 MacBook Air with 256 GB SSD. Photos loaded from an external drive through USB2 port.

I have a 2012 and 2013 MacBook Pro Retina. I am experiencing speed improvements in Aperture 3.5.1 on both after the 10.9.2 update.

Hi I am new to this forum, looking forward to using it often.  I cannot believe the speed increase with the new update.  I can now browse library (40 000) photos and make changes without the beach ball.  It’s amazing.  Working on an older 2008 iMac which is soon to be replaced.
